Well its been a long time since i had an SLR, and decided to get another. So after reading the forum, and various reviews i had narrowed it down to.... The Canon 350D and Nikon D50.
After reading the reviews i think i had made my mind up but just wanted to be sure, so off i went down to the local retailer and had a play with the two cameras. I found that the build quality and over all feel of the Nikon was a lot better - so thats was the one i ended up with !!!

I have uploaded my first few pics - pics are not really serious by just trying to remember things and get used to new camera...

Love the D50, feels really nice to handle and not like plastic.
I got the 18-55ml lens kit as they were out of stock of the twin lense kit, but i will be getting another lense this weekend hopefully.
I know the composition is not good at all, but it was just a quick few shots ( had to take some pics, it was killin me..lol) got to try and remember everything again :( So i'll have to keep an eye on the forum and get out abit more..

I'm looking at saving up for a DSLR soon, is it me or are they cheap (sub 400) compared to other DSLR's?

Pentax have a sub £400 model with a lens kit aswell. However, you will need atleast 1GB (imo) of memory to go with it. That will be another £30 - £50 depending on where you buy it.

The Pentax *ist DL is the entry model. Apparently the image quality is quite good but there is no lens kit included, which for some isnt a worry. Go to a local retailer and have a feel for yourself. Go for the one that YOU feel suits your needs and YOU can work with, thats the main thing.

King.

EDIT: To accompany the OP, here are some quick pics I took (with my D50), nothing special, just having a fiddle. They have all been slightly cropped.

Going to practice this weekend....do you think you made the right choice? and what do you find that you like about it (no offense meant, im same as you, had mine for only a few days). But there are a few posts asking about the D50 !!!
All i can say is that i think we both made the right choice.... im cuffed anyways :D

ive not taken more then 20 shots with it yet since I got in late but I fell in love with it as soon as it was in my hand :D As for the right choice having nothing to compare it to I cant really say, I never tried the 350d or infact the d50 before buying it but im very happy with it. Im shocked at the improvement over my sony H1, and I thought that was damn good!

Guess I'll join this thread instead of making my own, got a D50 a couple of days ago, moving from a cheap digital compact camera, wow the qualitys very good!

But Ive read all about the shutter speeds and F numbers etc, know what they do, but I just don't know what numbers to choose!

Or just shoot in Aperture priority - that way you can control the DOF and let the camera worry about exposing until you get used to what sort of settings it chooses in various places :) Im still trying to work out what the AE-L and AF-L button does though...auto exposure lock and auto focus lock or something
