new disk, hal.dll problems

I'm in process of upgrading a 80GB HDD to 250GB in a shuttle system (only space for one HDD so need to copy everything across to ne drive). Using another machine I've copied all the partitions from the old drive to the new drive but whwn I put the 250GB drive into the shuttle and attempt to boot it complains about the HAL.DLL file stops ... n.b. a win98 install in a seperate partition boots fine.

(n.b. I copied partitions using "partition commander v8")

Any ideas as to what the problem/solution is ... am I missing something "obvious!

Thanks for any help!

Both same type (IDE) and copied with partition commander.

Anyway, bit of further investigation (my initial search was done on a misremembring of the error message and I was googling HAL.SYS and not HAL.DLL) indicates that problem may be down to XP storing the *partition* info on where it is installed in BOOT.INI and I suspect with the way I copied partitions to new drive vs order things were installed on original drive then XP used to be in partition 0 but was in partition 1 on new drive ... I'll copy things again in a different order tomorrow and see if that fixes it

Got it sorted out now ... did what I should have done initially and went to the Seagate website and downloaded their diskwizard utility and ran a clone disk on that, stuck new drive back in Shuttle and it worked -not sure it really needed to be a 100MB download though ... I remember when they used to put a disk clone utility on a floppy disk!
