Hi there,

Im currently trying to connect a new Computer to a new domain, but having a few problems. Ive set up a DC with Active Directory and Primary DNS(configured it auto when installing AD) The problem is, when I try to connect a PC to it, it asks for a username and password of someone with rights to move it across, so i use the administrator account for the DC.. Thats where it comes up with an error saying the network name is invalid.. If it was invalid, why would it ask me for a username and password to it.

Its a new one to me. The computer is XP with SP2 and the Server is Server 2003 Enterprise Edition SP2.

Thanks in advance. :)

The error it gives is "The specified network name is invalid" Ive tried google, but not many answers, let alone ones that have worked. Ive tried reinstalling DNS and AD, but same message all the time. Does no one have any answers  :p

is it already in a domain? if so just try taking it off the domain and into a workgroup then back onto the new domain

Oh, no its not already on a domain. A friend and I decided to play around, got the video's etc to follow by, but come across the same problem each time.

Hi,

what it might be is you are not specifying the domain.

For example if my domain is called network.com
the net bios name for it is network
and the domain admin account is called domainadmin.

You would then login in as network\domainadmin and put the normal password in. If you just typed in domainadmin and the password it will probably not work.

Hope that helps.

;)
