New drive configuration with SSD

I've recently just purchased a Samsung 840 Pro 256Gb SSD to put in my PC this weekend as the main drive for the OS (Windows 7 Pro 64bit).

At the moment I currently have 2x Seagate Barracuda 1Tb 7200rpm 64Mb cache 6Gbs drives, 1x DVDRW and 1x BDRW. One of the HDD's is the main drive for the OS and game installs etc, the other is where I have my user profile (ie My Documents etc), various .iso images, software repository etc.

My motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD3H and as such it has the following SATA ports:

2x Intel Z77 chipset 6Gbs SATA ports
4x Intel Z77 chipset 3Gbs SATA ports
1x Intel Z77 chipset mSATA 3Gbs port

Now my initial thoughts are very obvious, stick the SSD on Port 0 of the 6gbs port, but that's where I get stuck.

I'm not sure how best to configure the other two 1Tb HDD's, obviously I don't want to lose anything that's on the 2nd HDD but I can trash the 1st one.

I'm thinking maybe configuring the 2 indentical HDD's in either RAID 0 or RAID 1, but I would lose some performance from the HDD's as I would have to split the RAID across the 6Gbs and 3Gbs ports. Or I stick both drives on the 3Gbs ports.

What would you do or suggest I do?

Stick both drives on the 3Gbs ports, you won't even notice they're not running on 6Gbs.

Completely off topic but you've never been involved with the ATC have you?

That's good to know, thanks tom_e.

Would I lose the data that's on the drive currently if I went RAID 0 or RAID 1?

By ATC do you mean the Air Cadets? If so, yes I was....why? lol

Not sure on the data loss I've never dabbled with RAID.

I do indeed, just a random thought when I seen your username I was a member of 422 Corby for a few years.

I was a member of 5F Northampton for a while, but we are talking probably a good 15+ years ago now though.

After doing a quick bit of research it would appear that if I use the Intel Rapid Storage Technology software I can configure the RAID via that and designate a source and destination drive, which in theory should stop me losing any data....happy days :)
