Hi all
Just ordered a Elite Tier SkyLake Bundle: Intel i7-6700K @ 4.50GHz.

The board is an asus maximus hero VIII mobo and I see it has m2 support.

I need a new drive and at first thought of a ssd but then wondered about m2.
Don't know much about drives so what are the pros and cons?
Not fussed if I use it as a boot drive or not.

I may fire another 780Ti in the future.

No one?

Basically asking are m2 drives ok and worth getting over an ssd

Read up on the different types..

M.2 and NVMe drives are different.

Is there a real world noticeable difference between a Samsung 850 Evo (regular SSD) and a Samsung 960 Pro (NVMe M.2), this may be debatable..

In many benchmarks, the 960 Pro destroys the 850 Evo.

I have a Crucial MX300 M.2 drive as my games SSD, it's the same speed (and in benchmarks) as the normal SSDs, but it's a 'low end' M.2 drive. The best thing about M.2 is how little space they take up.

I would vote for getting one, which drive is the question. On the other hand, spending more on GFX and getting a regular SSD will get you more performance.

thanks guys

after a bit of reading I just went for another ssd (already have one).

So, got. Sammy 750 as a secondary drive but can't get it fully working.

It does not show up in 'my computer' but does in 'devices and printers' where it tells me it works fine.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

No worries, figured it out. As you were all about to tell me, I have to allocate the partition and format!!!

Been a long long time since I've done this
