Hi i have a seagate ironwolf pro drive 16tb arriving tomorrow ,what are my choices of cables ,sata iii for data flow and powering it ,can i power the drive from existing installed drive cable as they seem to be daisy chained or best to use a new cable and plug in into my modular psu ,not owned a modular psu before so a bit of a grey area. Also can i use one of the sata cables of my old pc or purchase a new one ?

Probably parallel power, as daisy chaining would imply it doesn't work if one cable is disconnected.

A hard drive barely consumes any watts, even a mechanical drive, so I wouldn't worry about a dedicated cable.

SATA 3 was released in 2009 so presumably your old PC isn't older than that? It's probably safe to use the existing cable you have.

Ok thanks Parrallel means i do not need another cable for the power ,do you know of any programs for migrating data from other drives i used acronis in the past ,i also have a usb docking bay RSHTECH for drive transfer and swapping data ,my biggest issue is using a large external (WD) hard drive that i have 40,000 ish large files that i am making a lightroom catalogue of which is painfully slow ,think i need to make a lightroom catalogues chronological per year so it is speeding up the process and not looking for so much each time i start up lightroom ,i have also purchased a qnap das that i will put 2 seagate drives in the enterprise ones and run it raid array with a couple of 20tb drives hope this will be a better soloution over my existing wd duo which is getting slow due to filling up but also not really a great soloution as not hot swapable like the qnap .
