Hi All,

I picked her up today. She needs a bit of work, mostly painting but apart from that the car seems ok - although its nowhere near as quick as I thought it'd be. I reckon it feels like it has around 90bhp rather than the 130bhp its meant to have?? It's a 1.8. The cone filter sitting right at the exhaust manifold can't seem to help??

Anyway, here are the photos:

Ridiculous Spoiler that I removed at the prev owners

And the damage to paint it left (needs painted)

Has anyone got experience of this cold air intake? The metal is really hot to the touch which can't be good. Also looks like it's been dented at some point by the bonnet support and the bonnet itself. To me, it looks like it needs to be boxed in, or possibly have the filter relocated further from the hot engine.

Next on the list are new wheels - Rota RB's I think.

Anyways - Hello everyone and thought I'd show you the new purchase

That intake looks stupidly places.. id go back to stock if i was you.. the heat soak from it being there will be imense..

nice lil car tho :)

Seen lots of modified mx5's and they always have the filter there which does seem odd. You can get heatsheilds to help protect it. Car doesnt look to bad though, nice buy :) I think the thing with the 1.8's is whilst you do have the extra horses it is heavier so might not feel the extra power like you might imagine.

I think I'll fit some sort of samco hose to redirect the filter behind the nearside front headlight. I have a friend who should be able to fabricate me a heatshield box enclosure, then I'm looking at fitting one of these:

Not quite as outrageous as a bonnet scoop, lol.

Ignore the 420bhp RS4 lol, yes its a Lupo sport :)

Didnt even bat an eyelid at the Audi! My mums got a Lupo sport in that bright yellow, its a fun little car, 100BHP too, not bad from a 1.4

Shame the Lupo has been replaced by that hideous 'Fox' thing

Well done on ripping the spoiler off, although the skirts are much along the same lines :) The filter must be doing more harm than good sat there, as you say get it moved somewhere colder!

Would it not be cheaper to just get a new boot, then pay for a spray?

Quite possibly, I'll speak to a bodyshop tomorrow and see what they say to it :)

Ebay has turned up a couple of bootlids.

Unfortunately I'm guessing that the sirts are hiding a large amount of rust on the sills! Especially if the skirts are blocking the drain holes there allowing water to build up?

Anyway nice car, enjoy it, very similar to mine! Although sunny weather is very rare at the moment :(

So its a no to the side skirts? I'm actually a bit undecided on them myself. I think i'll leave them on until I have the spare cash to get the sills painted.
