New european super league is back

Yeah agree, it will just water down the importance of CL & Europa for the sake of advertising revenue at its heart. Hope the FA respond in same way as La Liga and it dies a quick death.
Ps ... i like the Barca comment, only a week to go!

Champions League and Europa League wouldn't exist any more.

The best team in Europe would be far more accurate with a proper European League.

La Liga, Premier League etc would be bankrupt overnight however.

A 20 team league with all the best teams in Europe with relegation etc would be awesome. I also love the fact other teams would be more even with revenue as the Prem is becoming a joke now.

Away games would be a hell of a lot more fun too :p

Why would you want accurate though. Thats half the fun of the CL. Its a one off. You can win the CL with a good run. Games are over 2 legs in the knockout stages which makes for interesting dynamics.

As to the money side of things, if you are correct and all the money from the domestic leagues comes into the SL, how on earth would all those teams outside of it in the domestic leagues be better off.

For me the glitz and the glamour has worn off big time. European nights used to be magical. European teams are lets face it second rate now. Serie A has become the MLS in the way it is a retirement league, Spanish League is clinging on to it's aging stars who will be gone in the next 2-3 years, Dutch, German and French leagues are all one man shows.

I am completely fixated in the Premier League like nothing else and it has surpassed European football in my eyes.

I wouldn't say I want the ESL to happen but there needs to be a way for European teams to compete with the Premier League. Don't get me wrong I yearn for United to be back at the top but I don't want them steamrolling the opposition simply because financially they are on a different level.

The big clubs don’t care about the smaller ones. They believe they are the show and they have the majority of fans, especially worldwide. They don’t want to share and the idea that income is evenly distributed between all clubs means smaller clubs can improve and potentially take away their success. Except Spurs of course.

Like the PL then with City

City have access to the PL's revenue. Other Europeans clubs do not. That is what I am getting it. Tottenham Hotspur shouldn't have more revenue than Dortmund, Inter Milan, AC Milan, Juventus and Atletico Madrid. Those clubs are far bigger than Spurs.

Even Westham who has won nothing for decades have more Revenue than a lot of Europe's elite clubs.

I think its a bad idea.

It's like that international league, Nations League. Hardly anyone watches it or even follows it.

Dire idea.

Hopefully it doesn’t kick off, Qatar and the Germans aren’t up for it so that should hopefully be enough.

The owners here will be pushing for it though, in a weird strange way i hope the Saudi says no to it as well, with them being the up and coming they might not have the same pull. City are getting a bit of hot water at the moment so U.A.E along with Saudi/Qatar could have a massive sway in this. Would get an everyone on their sides. Works out great for them.

Not that this League will happen, not anytime soon anyway but the one thing that is possible is reduced tv subscriptions. Kind of anyway. One of the big drivers for a European competition run by the clubs themselves rather than UEFA is greater control on TV rights, with clubs wanting to sell the rights to their own games. The global fan bases of the major clubs are so large that they do have the potential to go mass market through cheap subscriptions.

We hear about these 100s of millions of fans the biggest clubs have, which is obviously massively exaggerated however if you could get 5m subscribers paying just £7 per month for 10 months of the year, that would generate a club £350m in revenue. Now obviously through this sort of set-up fans would only be getting coverage of their teams games and wouldn't be getting other sports rights however it would work out a lot cheaper than the current BT sub to watch the CL.

Individual rights doesn't really help people who watch lots of different teams though. I like the current setup (although maybe not spread around 3 broadcasters) but we need to be able to see all games in the UK.

It will benefit some and some will be worse off, I was just explaining how this ESL idea could result in lower subscription costs. As I mentioned, the major driver for a breakaway from UEFA is so that the clubs have greater control of TV rights - they know that a handful of clubs generate 90% of the tv revenue and they want to keep that 90% for themselves.

Again, not that it's going to happen anytime soon but I'm sure it will be a bit more complex than what I suggested and there will be options to purchase the rights to every game. For example it could be £7 per month to subscribe to all your teams games or £20 for the entire competition, with the extra £13 going into a big pot to be redistributed among all clubs.

Sadly it's not something I can see happening with the UK rights for the PL anytime soon but we're going to see League's and European competitions start selling direct to customers sooner rather than later. There's going to be a Premflix eventually but I guess it'll be for the rest of the world, while we're subscribing to 3 or 4 different platforms to watch 50% of the games.
