As some of you know i will be buying a Fiat Grande Punto 1.9 JTDM Sporting.

Just wondering what people think of them.

Honestly i think they are gorgeous and from the front they really do look like a baby maserati.

What are Fiat engines like?

The interior on this car is amazing. The bhp and torque on it is oustanding for what it is, the car has some right pulling power.

Discuss away :D

The engine is great- I have the 100bhp 8v version in my punto mk2b hgt multijet- vaguely similar performance to the GP sporting due to the weight the car has gained- from what people have said on fiat owners forums the main thing to be wary of on these is a poor paint finish- some have had it literally falling off in places

I have the older JTD 1.9 in my stilo and its a great Diesel engine.

Tested the MJD and its even nicer.

Grande Punto = :D

What colour are you getting? Red?

Not really, its "ok", but its certainly nothing special. A PSA 1.6HDI 110bhp lump delivers 240NM torque, ok so its 10bhp and 40NM less, but its a much smaller engine.

Interior, stunning, wtf? Its far from stunning, its a typical cheap fiat mish-mash of colour, and the materials used aren't exactly excellent either.

I'm thinking orange, will make me stand out from other cars :D

Expensive, but if you are going to buy a new small car I don't think you can do much better. Likely to hold its value very well too.

Its a shame you can't get Broom Yellow anymore, they changed it on the old Punto to a less nice colour. Now its not an option on the new one.

I'd be tempted to get a red one but not seen a real orange one so could be different.

I really like them, they look fantastic in my opinion. I can't comment on the build quaility or drive because I haven't actually had a poke around one, although I want to in the near future.

Personally I would go for the grey colour with leather and climate. I can't think of many other small cars I would rather have. I specced one up at around £13k, that would buy you a lot more car in the secondhand market but I am sure that being fiat you could haggle it quite a bit off that price and get a good finance deal.

Why exactly?

Sporting is 130bhp

Have you sat in the Grande Punto?

The residual agreed between Fiat and Glasses is actually higher than those for Renault Clios, Vauxhall Corsa, Toyota Yaris.,

Up by 10% compared to some.

Yes, someone at work has one, like I said, its "ok", but nothing special at all, and I certainly wouldn't pay that much for one.

You might not however people are.,

In the 5 months its been out, the car has been the fastest selling car in western europe for 3 of those months.

Don't really see any redeeming features to this car. I park next to one at work. Doesn't stand out in the slightest and until I noticed the name after I was in a thread where one was mentioned I didn't know what it was.

Yeah and all of those fastest selling now second hand cars are really gonna help the residuals next year.

It's cars that don't sell that have a poor residual.

Not cars that sell well,.

Think about it for a second.

People pay list price for these cars, people want to buy used ones.
There are no used ones yet, however when there are people will pay good money for them.

But the market will be saturated. There'll be more second hand puntos than there are interested people and the prices will tumble.

Also, it's a Fiat Punto.

When the hell did they become good cars with good residuals?

They've always been ten a penny and falling to pieces. Have they learnt how to build cars now?

When I first saw the advert for these, I though 'Wow! Great looking car!'

Then I saw one in the flesh and to be honest thought they looked quite poor.

No idea what driving one is like, but I bet its not a patch on the 45bhp Uno I used to have! :D

Like the Ford Focus?

Very popular car, can buy them anywhere - have a good residual.,

The Grande Punto will have a good residual, Fiat are increasing the price of new ones from the end of this month by upto £500 which will help make the price difference between new and used ones greater.

Fiat in recent times have been building very good cars, look at the Panda for example won European Car of the year 2004, Best city car 2005 etc.

The Panda has been out over 2 years now and it has a good residual,.

The Grande Punto also has won the best diesel engine 2006.
