Press release RaidSonic 09.2/2008

New open Linux firmware for ICY BOX IB-NAS4220 available
September 29.

The new open Linux firmware for the ICY BOX IB-NAS4220 is now available on the website of RaidSonic: http://www.raidsonic.de/en/pages/service/driver.php
The new firmware offers serious improvements to operate the IB-NAS4220, for "normal users" as well as for Linuxspecialists. Hard drives will come to a complete stop without any problem. As Bonjour is activated the NAS will be recognized also in Mac networks.

This new open Linux firmware fulfills a strong desire particularly by Linux enthusiasts. It offers new options for the engagement with the operating system of the NAS4220 as well as further prospects for the development of new applications. Surely it makes possible to use all the applications already developed by the community. On the website of the NAS community – http://nas-4220.org – you will find a lot of those applications, as well as discussions, questions and answers.
The collaboration with the community is a matter of give and take. This is underlined by the fact that experts from the community’s forum were involved in the testing of the new firmware.

RaidSonic emphasises with the development and supply of the open firmware 2.6.3.IB.1.RS.1 that particularly the ICY BOX IB-NAS4220 as well as NAS in general will have a major role in the future. That applies for the collaboration with the NAS community, too.

Have any of you got the torrent client on this AS to work? My one arrived yesterday and its worked great for file transfers but no torrents.

Got mine this morning and torrents work fine.

First thing I did was update to the latest firmware before I used it. Have you definatley opened and forwarded the necesarry ports on your router?

LOL....

Old news, this firmware has been available for WEEKS.

Its actually completely bugged, doesn't allow access to your box through Telnet, still doesn't support the 1.5TB Seagate drives properly (You can only have 1 in at a time, implying there is still a 2TB limit on total capacity).

Considering this is very easy to implement for the developer its a joke really.

It has numerous others bugs that are well documented if you do a search for "nas4220 + wiki" go to the first site that comes up...

There's a wiki and a forum that has peoples problems listed with the firmware and LOADS of people with problems.

FYI, it still doesn't support Samsung Spinpoint drives...

Raidsonic...lazy gits.

Telnet works fine for me... Just have to enable it (its not on the menu, http://icybox/cgi/telnet/telnet.cgi)

For 1.5TB drives it seems as though you need a different kernel

What the crap?
Just updated my new IB-NAS4220 with this and now cannot find it!
Wont respond to http://ib-nas4220-b OR its old ip address before the update.

Have I killed it already?!

Ah ha! I needed the NAS finder software. The DHCP server kept changing the IP address of the unit everytime it rebooted. Its on a static now!!!

Check this for some hard drive compatible info -

Moderators, please delete if this link is not allowed, but I think its ok!

I have got 2 WD 1TB Greens in. I should have bought different manufacturer drives to avoid the chance of them being from a bad batch and going down at the same time.

But I like to live my life on the edge!!
