bought a Zanussi Fridge for undercounter - small 55cm wide one for kitchen

basically its not performing great - top shelf averages 8C at best (sometimes 7 if you leave it overnight shut), middle shelf averages about 6

very poor compared to our last larger fridge

its about 6 weeks old

took a look round the back - noticeable corrosion round the joints on one of the pipes bottom of radiator

is this just normal from the disimilar metals - or could it be "leaking"

thanks

thanks

I bought it from JL so should be good after service - as I said only 6 weeks old

it was cheap (about 170) - but I'd expect it at a minimum to keep fridge at an acceptable temp

I'd say top shelf should be about 6.5 absolute max right ?

No. The max anywhere in the fridge should be 5c.
6.5c is still in the 'danger zone' for bacteria growth. Ideally you want 3-4c overall.

That fridge is not up to spec, getting it replaced should be fairly straightforward.

6.5? No, put it this way, my fridge won't let me set it upwards of 3.

At the max setting the fridge should (just) freeze solid all of the contents even at the top shelf. This has been the case for every fridge i have owned (many).

So yeah, its broken :)

You are taking the ambient temperature, not the core temperature.

It is an auto defrost fridge so it will raise the temperature to melt the ice.

ok bit confused now with your statement OldCoals

no matter what setting I use (4 upwards) - best I can manage is about 7C for top

I've had to move yoghurts down to 2nd level as they don't "taste cold"

Its broken mate, at the max setting i have never had a fridge (i have had a lot of fridges due to BTL) which cant freeze the contents, there is no way it should be anything like as warm as that even on 3 or 4....

Take the temperature of a liquid that has been in the fridge for a bit, if you just pop a thermometer into the fridge you are taking the temperature of the air inside it. If you do that during a defrost cycle then the temperature will be raised.

There is very little difference between the minimum and maximum in terms of temperature difference when you adjust the thermostat, maybe as little as half a degree per number.

With the warmer temperatures these sort of "problems" are more common, we go to loads.

still a bit confused - so you're saying if I dip check and check temps say once and hour and its always showing 8.5C

that thats only ambient temp

and food/liquids could be sub 5 ? I can't figure that out sorry - but I'm prob being dense

Place a cup of water in the fridge over night and dip test this in the morning.

You might be only seeing the air temps after defrost.

How often does the compressor run?

As oldcoals said your taking air temp, best thing to measure is a fat or liquid that has been in for 24 hours. When you adjust the stat dial you adjust the cut off point for the compressor, cut in point is always 9.9oC on mechanical stats.

Do you see an even frosting on the back wall at times and water droplets at other times and does the door look like it's sealing well.

The pipework is fine :)

I think you're making this a lot more complicated than it needs to be. If you're giving the fridge the full beans and stuff still tastes warm then it's broken.
