New front door - only locks with the key?

I don't understand the concern?

It's GOOD it's not so simple to lock the door and you need a key.... A) you keep the key safe and B) you don't lock yourself out.

I can see that but it means I need to lock the door with the key when I come *in* to the house as well. I always lock the door with the key at night when I go to bed but if I'm at the other end of the house during the day or doing something in the garden then having the door locked whilst it's closed is just good practice, isn't it?

I think myself lucky we live in an area where if I leave the front and back door unlocked, or even open, I'm more likely to receive a present in my porch than have anything stolen.

I don't make a habit of leaving them unlocked obviously, but I much prefer the prospect of accidentally forgetting to lock it than getting locked out! Even if two of my neighbors have keys...

Well, you can still open from the outside with a key.
Yeah, that's what I meant - If I had a free Chinese meal for every time my neighbours "just stepped out to put the bins out" without taking the key and I had to pick their lock to let them back in.... oh, wait, I *did* get a free meal every time!!

Ya know, I really miss living next door to the best Chinese place in Harrow!! :D

A standard handle and lock on a door is this...

You shut the door, lift the handle up, turn the key, now locked. Anything different is not standard and needs to be asked for basically.

I'd love to know how much Everest charge for a composite door? :)

Never locked my house door in my life and never use to lock my car doors till I own one with a remote locking key fob..

Guess I just been lucky..plus we don't get many people breaking into houses over here..
