New "fun" car time - looking for suggestions

If you want the best 9 - then the MR 360 is it in my opinion. That or the MR RS. Both are like hen's teeth and command a premium. If I were to stay in the Evo game then it would be the MR 360 for me - unfortunately for the RS I tend to like things like electric windows, remote central locking and AC!

If you haven't seen it yet, here's a link to the model differences:

I'll say it again - i'd love to see it, but if you end up with an Evo I would be very surprised - pleasantly in many ways :)

The 111s seems to be the one to go for if you can, but they are rarer and more expensive.

The pre-2005 (I think) ones have Rover K-series engines which have weak head gaskets. But most have been already been upgraded and it's not that expensive to do. So it's not really much of an issue any more.

All the series 1 models are actually going up in value now though. So any of those are worth getting. Don't expect any luxuries with an Elise though, they don't even have carpets :D

The S1 111s did come with carpets as standard. They are useful in reducing the noise from stones rattling around the interior and in stopping ones feet from sliding about.

More importantly the 111s has an engine that is far more eager to rev and the short ratio gearbox that makes best use of the increased rev range.

At 20 grand for an 8 MR i'm not surprised.

Aside from some comedy pricing, why else wouldn't you buy from there out of interest?

Without wanting to slate the place..

I went there to view the STi S202, STi Spec C and have a nose at the Evos they have.

They have a LOT of Evos, and they all look very clean to be honest, but I didn't really check them over thoroughly. They say they're mainly Evo dealers, this much is apparent.

The S202 was a mess, and they spoke about sourcing parts for it from a car they're breaking. But the manor of which it was discussed was not confidence inspiring.

Also when I asked about test drives, it seems only one guy is allowed to take you out (he wasn't there that day) and they prefer to do it when the "estate is quiet" so they can pull all the cars out - which says to me slightly dodgy/no proper insurance.

Now this is all just my view point. I could be wrong and have misjudged the place. But it's not somewhere I'd feel I could trust with my money.

Been to the above, I wouldn't be buying a car from there.

yea i was thinking of adding to my post......``watch out for him though, he probably clocks his cars and they might be dodgy too``..........because i contacted him about an Evo as well, weeks ago, and he was dodgy as hell on the phone.

i'm very cautious about buying an Evo now, the only place i would trust is the MLR Forum and probably the black one i showed you...the other Evos there are all highly tuned and very expensive.

to be honest for me, the only car i truly trust is the Integra Type R DC 5 from Torque GT, because i've viewed quite a few 500HP Evos and all you sense a day later at home is, ``money pit........money pit............money pit``.

even the owners say to me..``it costs a fortune to maintain, but who cares because we love Evos``

your best bet is a low mileage Evo 9..............that is UNMODIFIED ;) mod it yourself, not one that's already modified because you just dont know what the hell you're letting yourself in for :(

I think it's safe to say that you just shouldn't buy cars from the majority of places in Birmingham these days..

or manchester !

i dont know where it's safe to buy an Evo 9 from  but from MLR is definitely the best, because the adverts are far better, the car will be owned by an Evo fan and if there is a problem with it and it's already been viewed by someone else, it'll get posted up on the thread for everyone to see :eek:

you can not sell a dog on MLR without it being detected, because members check its history on the quiet and they always get found out after it's viewed anyway !!!!!!!

on MLR right now there's an Evo 7 RS Extreme  now Ralliart only made a few of these so they're very collectible, plus it's low mileage.
