New future build questions

Hi guys.

So finally I can afford a new PC, in a other topic I been quoted a nice system for just under £500.

But I got some questions regarding the i5-4790k vs the i7-4790k. In gaming the difference seems to be 1-3 FPS difference, but I read comments that in some games that the i7 is using all 8 threads and that future games will likely use all 8 as well.

But what does that mean in real terms?

Also, would the i7 be better over the i5 when it comes to large resolutions? Like at 5700x1200 or in my case 3600 x 1920, does the CPU matter at all or is it just pure GPU power needed?

I plan on playing games like Skyrim, BF4, PS2 and Alien and so on at the above resolutions with high/ultra settings. Aslong the FPS is over 30, am happy.

Thanks for any help, I don't really like asking questions like this since I prefer to research myself, but I want to order my new PC this coming week where normally I like to spend a few weeks researching every part available before buying, so kinda in a rush. :p

For gaming right now get the i5. There is no tangible benefit with i7 when gaming at large resolutions, as you've correctly surmised that is down to the GPU.

For any gaming system get the quickest GPU you can afford.

If and (more likely) when games start to require more cores then you can upgrade to an i7 if needed.
