I have a new modem a Sagemcom F@st 4370, coming from a Huawei MT992 with a Gfast connection. Tested the internet down
speed, where in the past I was getting 280mbps i'm now getting 190mbps.

Do I have to wait until the DLM adjusts to the new Modem?

Router i'm using is a Tplink AX11000, and my ISP is talktalk.

Wait, stop, don't just swap straight away.

The DLM has a particular way it manages and views the line for instability. If you swap back without waiting some time first, it thinks there's an error on the line and starts to apply ever more aggressive corrective measures to make the line stable. This will reduce your speed.

When you shut/power off your currently connected modem/router, the first thing you need to do is wait for 15 minutes (at a minimum, I would wait for 30 minutes just in case you shut it down during or close to the 15 minute interval the DLM monitors so it knows that it's not a fault with the line but something is being done with the modem/router or with the line that's not fault related). Once the time is up (again 30 min is preferred), THEN, connect and power up your other modem/router.

Then see if the speeds are the same or not between the two as @Caged suggests.

Thank you for both for your advice, I didn't realise all of this, something to note for the future.
I had to return the Mt992 as I would have been charged so I'm really hoping it is just the DLM, and not something else.
I did try the Mt992 before I sent it back and the speed did go down to 190mbps as well right after trying the 4370. When the day before it was 280mbps.

Swapping between them shouldn't make a difference as G.fast doesn't so DLM, it uses SRA.

What was your promised minimum download speed? Can you see what the line is synced at?

How do I check the line sync?? On the ax11000 or the modem?

I' ve had g.fast for several years and the speeds have varied between 280-300mbps.
