I've been meaning to update the pictures on my site for quite a while as I had a lot of images I'd not put on there. I also didn't hugely like the gallery2 system and had been pointed to ZenGallery a while ago but never really checked it out all that much.

At the weekend I took a proper look at it and decided it's a nice clean system that allows easy uploads and image management.

It is now live and working well and has all my latest work on it, check it out below and any feeback is good. :)

My Gallery

good gallery firstly I was expecting a dog slow flash site but no kudos to you !!!!

with the exif data... totally wasn't expecting that however I was expecting it when I click the image when its on full... maybe to go larger and take more of the screen up ? and maybe some comments ?

I hate flash based sites, I like simple click and work ones. :)

What do you mean about the Exif? As in when you clicked 'Image info' you thought you'd see comments? I've had Exif on all my gallery variations, as it's a nice thing to have in my view. :)

I haven't actually put any comments on the images, which is why none show. :p

I can enable comments by others too, but I'm not a huge fan of that sort of thing really, although if I set up authorisation before it's shown it's not too big a deal.

As for image sizes, I haven't really looked at what sizes it does, that's the standard size, and I agree, they are a bit small. It did have you able to click on the image and it'd give you the full original, but I don't like giving my work away like that so disabled that part of it. Will look into larger sizes on the main image view page though. :)

EDIT: Just played with the image sizes...it seems the site isn't built to adjust in line with image sizes, so I can only have the images 680px wide else it breaks the layout, at least with the current theme anyway.

Don't think the images have to be larger necessarily. Take a look around at professional galleries ... like this http://www.joecornish.com/ ... his images are fantastic, as an aside.

I wouldn't personally enable comments for images unless you're going down a photoblog route. On mine, I added a guestbook to bridge the gap, though it's probably not going to be there in the next version of the site.

Overall, it's simple to navigate and understand, but verging on being a bit too simple. It's appeal more with a banner, a bit about you etc. No sites just have a gallery without any explanation as to why.

sorry im crap at explaining or lazy either way lol I ment how it comes to view, how the page dimms and that shows, I was expecting that to happen when i clicked on a selected picture.

I ment comments by other people moderation of course and you can spam filter it by using a few things ?

Again with your exif function how it dimms the rest of the screen etc you could use this for a larger image but more watermarked and centrally ?

My actual site is www.finaldecap.co.uk / www.finaldecap.com and I will be recoding that to match/tie in better with the gallery software. I will also probably recode the gallery stuff to include my banner, and enable linking back to the main site, as at the moment it doesn't, and if I set it up to do it, it goes a bit funky.

Yeah, I'm not sure quite why the theme doesn't do that actually as it'd be good to have the images able to come up to a larger resolution (I have increased the size to 680px instead of 595px on the long side though, which matches the max size on the current theme's layout.

Ah yeah, I'm just not sure about people's comments, but it's a simple tick box to enable it. In fact I've just enabled them. :)

It seems that you can't get it to do admin moderated comments, but it can email me to tell me someone has commented.

I'll look into recoding the theme, which could prove interesting. :p As it stands though the current theme doesn't allow it, others do, but are not at all that good in other ways.

Keep the comments coming and I'll try to improve it over the next few days, when I can. :)

EDIT: I've added a size option thing, problem with that though is it just overlaps the edge of the theme, and screen...would much prefer that to be a popout thing though, and leaving the theme's one at 680px.
