Hi guys.

I've not been playing games for the past few years but am about to get back into it, already got some great bargins like Far Cry 3 from Steam during their Xmas sale.
So I'm ready to buy my next gaming PC and have around £1600 to spend.

Which processor would be best for games like Far Cry 3, the i7 4770 or the i7 4820? My build will also include a GTX780 and am buying a 27" Dell monitor separately.

Cheers :)

I agree with Fulax.

The 4770k is better for gaming.

Though the X79 chipset has its advantages, the choice is, will you use these features.

Basically it supports Quad channel RAM and has 8 DIMM's. This means more overall RAM can be installed. This is only needed for Render Farms and CAD work and maybe in some video editing systems.

Another is the ability for a hex-core (octo-core) intel CPU.. Though you WON'T need one of these for gaming.

Another plus is the ability for a lot of 2011 boards to run Tri-SLI and Quad-SLI. Are you going to be purchasing 3/4 780ti's? If not (and no to the rest of the questions) the 4770k is right for you. :)

Hi guys
You've sold me to the 4770k, thanks for explaining the differences Doomedspeed, you've no doubt saved me some cash too, thanks too for the link Fulax, am reading

Cheers!

I have just built a X79 upgrading from x58, looked at Haswell but the heat and the lottery whether you get a good or bad overclocker put me off in the end.

So went x79 >Asus x79 DLX+4820k depending on your spec, etc they roughly work out the same.

The Haswell is a bit faster but don't forget l can upgrade the CPU if l want new or second hand 4930k later.
