Hello people,

I decided to build a new gaming system. The budget is that of 3k Euros.

After browsing a bit, I came out with this spec. What do you think of it, any parts that you would change of.

  • EVGA GeForce GTX 980Ti Hybrid 6144MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
  • Intel Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz (Skylake) Socket LGA1151 Processor - OEM
  • Corsair Dominator 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 PC4-24000C15 3000MHz Dual Channel Kit - Black )
  • Asus Maximus VIII Hero Intel Z170 (Socket 1151) DDR4 ATX Motherboard
  • Corsair AX760i Digital ATX '80 Plus Platinum' Modular Power Supply (
  • Corsair Hydro H100i GTX 240mm High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler
  • Crucial BX100 250GB SSD SATA 6Gbps 7mm Solid State Drive
  • Corsair Carbide 540 High Airflow ATX Cube Case
  • Western Digital Caviar Green 2TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache

Thanks,
Kavalier

Hi there,

There are a few ways you could save money on this build - However, I'm not sure if you have specific preferences to brands. Here's something that will give similar performance for roughly the same price:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Inno3D GeForce GTX 980Ti Hybrid Black Edition 6144MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (C98TP-1SDN-N5HNX) £629.99
1 x Intel 5820K 3.30GHz (Haswell-E) Socket LGA2011-V3 Processor - Retail (BX80648I75820K) £293.99
1 x MSI X99A SLI Plus Intel X99 (Socket 2011) DDR4 ATX Motherboard £179.99
1 x TeamGroup Vulcan 16GB (4x4GB) DDR4 PC4-24000C16 3000MHz Quad Channel Kit - White (TLWED416G3000HC16AQC01) £109.99
1 x Corsair Hydro H100i GTX 240mm High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler (CW-9060021-WW) £101.99
1 x EVGA SuperNova G2 750W '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply £94.99
1 x Samsung 250GB 850 EVO SSD 2.5" SATA 6Gbps 32 Layer 3D V-NAND Solid State Drive (MZ-75E250B/EU) £79.99
1 x Corsair Carbide Series Air 240 High Airflow PC Case - Black (CC-9011070-WW) £75.95
1 x Western Digital Caviar Green 2TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (WD20EZRX) HDD £67.99
Total : £1,644.47 (includes shipping : £8.00 Ex.VAT).

My reasoning being that I don't believe the 6700k is worth it - You can get a good clock on the 5820k, around 4.4GHz with an AIO cooler, and for roughly the same price you end up getting 2 more cores and 4 more threads, which helps if you are doing tasks other than gaming on the machine.

I also swapped out the Dominator Platinum RAM as I don't believe it's worth the premium for the average person - However the RAM I did select may be hard to get in your own country (unless you are ordering it from OcUK? I'm not sure.) - I swapped out the Corsair PSU as I have heard about Corsair PSUs, even the higher end ones, having coil whine with 980Ti cards, although I don't really expect this to be a problem with the enthusiast PSUs.

Pretty much everything else is the same though.

I'm not sure how much this comes out to in your country, but hopefully it should still be less than €3,000.

Hello Rowlii,

Thanks for your output. Yes I was reading on the CPU forum part that an x99 version seems to be better somehow.

Build wise, I am only in doubt with the motherboard, since I never owned an MSI board. How do they perform in terms of reliability?

Thanks again.

Motherboard and case are incompatible.

You need a micro atx motherboard with that case.
