New gaming pc spec help

I'll probably stick with the 9700x then.

Funnily enough I have my 1050ti because there was barely any graphics cards about at the time and paid over the odds!

Might have to be the 7800xt unless the 7900gre comes back in stock. I'd have to ask them :(

It's most unlikely the gre will be back in stock, AMD announced they stopped producing these cards back in December, and they were selling out everywhere at the time

Thanks, yeah I think I'm pretty limited on graphics card, depending on the new ones and costs but heard good things about the 7800xt.

The only question I have left is whether the Gigabyte eagle WiFi 7 (socket am5) Ddr5 is overkill for this build?

You're referring to the X870 version? The main thing you're paying for with that board is USB4, though it does have PCI-E 5.0 graphics.

Personally, I think the B650 version is fine, but it is that old chestnut of "future proofing" with the newer features.

Yeh that's the one. Is this the one you mean?

To be fair back in 2012 I got usb2 and never used it once!

Yeah, that's the 'cheap' one. It only has PCI-E 4.0 graphics, 1 Gb LAN, there's no USB4. It does have 1x PCI-E 5.0 M.2 slot though, not sure why they bothered with that.

Was about to pull the trigger but noticed there were 2 gfx cards at the same price. Is there any major difference? I can't see it apart from obvious number of fans and more is usually better! :D

I can't find any reviews which compare the two cards, so I can't give you any advice there I'm afraid.

There's a review here you might want to look at:

The gigabyte card has a factory over clock and larger cooler and this a bigger card.

The sapphire card is equivalent to an MBA card and has no over clock and has a smaller cooler.

The difference is probably negligible, but in theory the gigabyte card is faster.

The sapphire would be better if trying to squeeze into an itx case

Thank you both, there's not much out there to distinguish the difference. Apparently the sapphire one has better cooling even with one less fan but my source is from a social media post (a more respectable one) but still to be taken with a pinch of salt. Will stick with the sapphire one :)

Sapphire very rarely produce a bad card, if it helps. I'd consider buying a Pulse a pretty safe choice if you're buying blind.

That monitor is a 75hz VA panel running at 1080P, personally I would factor in a newer monitor. You can get some good 27" 1440P screens for around £150, 1080p with your budget is frankly a waste unless you're chasing frames for competitive play, and you wouldn't be doing that on a 75hz screen anyway.

In terms of GPU's, a 7800XT from one brand is going to run much the same as any other unless there's an issue with the specific model. - Edit: I would be a little wary of the two fan models from Powercolor as they often skimp on the cooling with those models (poor heatsinks etc, two fan models can work really well but I've yet to see it from Powercolor), I've experienced more than one that sounded like a jet engine under light loads.

If you're happy at that refresh rate and resolution/refresh rate, you could also severely reduce your budget.

Do you have any recommendations on screens? Orders gone in so now on the hunt

Currently looking at an MSI G272QPF E2 27". Seems to have the right resolution, size and the refresh rate is 180 so I think it ticks all the boxes? Just over £200 but couldn't find anything towards 150.

If it helps anyone in the future. This was my final build. Like a lot of projects, over budget but I think paying a bit more I got a lot more (2tb instead of 1tb, better processor etc) probably won't need it but like my wife, if there's more storage there will be something to store in it!

This forum and OCUK have been amazing as they were 12 years ago when I had my last one built :)

Hi,

Looking for some help. I bought my last PC from OCUK many moons ago (2012) and started on this very helpful forum and eventually bought it over the phone and had it built.

I'm looking to upgrade and get something decent to play PC games as mine is obviously slow now and technology has advanced massively. Saying this it still amazing works apart from having to replace a graphics card ( think its a Geforce 1050). It's obvious when your work laptop is faster than your old gaming pc.

Depending on the benefit i'd roughly want to spend around £1,300 give or take. I like the look at some of the below but I have no idea if they are great or if there is better for roughly the same cost? I would imagine I need to add Windows 11 to the build and more fans, not sure if I am missing anything else. I have Windows on this computer (the old one) but assuming it won't carry over? Part reason for the upgrade is Windows 11 isn't supported on my current one.

Thanks in advance

I configured mine over forum and web note with OCUK. Kept some of recommendations from users on forum and upgraded some from staff from ocuk Web note what they recommended. Paid by web note no problem. Ive not spoken to anyone directly and just used internet to configure and pay.

I bought my last one here too same way and 2 monitors recently. Best compony around for computer and lots of info.

That MSI seems like a good monitor from a quick google, this should be comparable at closer to £150:
