its the thermal transfer between the cpu surface and the heatsink base, also fills the microscopic pits and pours of the metal.

The cooler comes with some, it might actually be good stuff anyway.

Ok, so once I put it on, is that it, or will I have to keep adding it every few weeks/months?

Edit: Well I haven't read any guides yet, I'm trying to pick the components first, because they apparently all fit differently.

You leave it on. Once it sets, thats it. No need to apply more except if you have to remove your heatsink for any reason.

apply a pea sized blob to the cpu suface, put your index finger into the corner of a clear food bag, and carefully spread across the heatspreader.

attach the cooler, and give it a gentle wiggle to bed in.

it will last for a year or two before a fresh application would be desirable.

Ok cool, so i'm pretty much set now, I assume all the parts come with cables and anything needed for connecting, or is there anything else I need?
