Hi guys,

Finally decided to upgrade my 5 year old tower but I'm pretty out of date with the latest cpu's and GPu's etc. PC will only be used for gaming and general day to day browsing

I have been looking at the : https://www.overclockers.co.uk/ocuk...en-7-3700x-3800x-ryzen-9-3900x-fs-106-og.html

and upgrading the processor to the 3900x, good move? not sure on the GPU though, will the 5700 xt suffice for latest gaming titles.

Obviously as I'm looking at the above system budget will be around the 2k area. Any help would be appreciated ;-)

For gaming you won't really need to go for the 3900X.. As for the GPU the 5700XT is a solid GPU, what monitor will you be using?

I'm thinking of staying with the iiyama Prolite E2473HDS. Had it the same time as the tower and it seems solid enough for now.

Would you say to stay with the 3700x? I'm just trying to future proof as much as possible

If your budget covers everything, ie 16gb RAM, decent storage etc then yeah go for the 3700X... It will do more than enough for Gaming so will last a fair while from now

You can easily fit a 1440p monitor into a £2K budget.

I would have chosen the Asus TUF monitor for £484 but out of stock at the moment. Still some money left over if you wanted to change to a 3700X.

You could also probably up the gpu to a 2080 Super and still be under £2000.

Just as a rough example:

Highjacking this thread. What would everyone's stock 3700x/16GB/5700XT build be for 1440p gaming?
^^^ b450 MSI Carbon to save cash - £30-40. Gigabyte Gaming OC best all rounder XT card from all reviews for sound, power usage heat and frames.
Aorus has 4 year warranty and coolest Core XT available - think OCUK sold a fare few - @Gibbo might know numbers
