I'm going to be honest, I haven't done much research yet as I don't think its worth it but I was wondering if I should get a gaming PC. I don't know much about PC builds, and it does seem a bit complicated with all the things you have to purchase and then put in yourself. I understand the benefits it has from the PS5, which is what I have at the moment, for example, purchasing games at a cheaper price.

If I were to buy one, I would like to get a good one that lasts a long time. I would like it to play games pretty well, from playing Minecraft with shaders at a good frame rate to playing Warzone at around 200 frames per second. To get a PC like this (I already have a monitor), how much would it cost and would it be complicated to find and put in all the pieces to go in a computer?

Just a general estimate would be fantastic!

Hi and welcome.

Warzone 1080p medium quality 200fps you will need a GPU like the 6700xt which is around £300 mark.

Depending on CPU that can be done with a 5600 , b550 motherboard and 32gb DDR 4 3600mhz for around £300.

1tb M2 drive, PSU and case let's say £200 give or take .

So that's around £800.

Take a look at this mainly for GPU benchmark but there are modern CPU's if budget allows.

Oh ok, thank you - would I also need liquid cooling or something. I've heard that term being thrown around

No liquid cooling.

The 5600 comes with a cooler but if you want something better there are plenty of options around the £20 to £30 range, Thermalright coolers are great value.

I remember that argument from those that were already a member of the 'Master Race'....so much cheaper having a pc....err, you'll have to buy a shed load of games to even come close to recouping the differnece from a top gaming pc to a console...it's not as simple as saying a console may have a gpu in it similar to a 6700XT or 3070, it the fact that cosoles are also supremely well optimised so can get a lot more performance out of saif gpu
An example is me playing life of Pi on my pc....7800x3d and a 3070ti.....£450 and £569, £110 for ram, £150 for ssd, £160 for psu, £250 for mobo, £130 for case...£150 for my fans to look nice, £35 air cooler..whats that £2k...admittedly I've got it hooked up to a 4k tv(and can strip out components, swap to cheaper parts to make rig cheaper, and youll get beeter fps with more modern gpu), but it still plays like crap...my xsx which you can now get for £378 plays it fine, on the same tv....and I need to splurge out getting a better gpu at some point, which will be offset by £300 selling my gpu(roughly as £100 more than a 3070 and they going for £250, so halving diff and adding it to that)...but still
I'd say just think carefully before dropping a load on a pc if you actually enjoy your ps5...paying £20 to £30 more for a new title is a drop in the ocean to the price diff of everything...not sure what ps5 sales are like for older titles, but seem to get a lot on the microsoft store so older games are cheap there too....
think term that comes to my mind is 'the grass is always greener....'
That being said, pc is more than just a gaming rig...why I'm a sucker and keep coming back to it and upgrading etc....it'll hook you in and you're done for

Yeah this has got me thinking. If money wasn't an object I would get one

According to mickyflinn's link, you need a 4090 to play at 200 fps (Ultra) @ 1440p, while minimum settings require a 6800 XT (CPU is 13900K). So, you better get your wallet out.
I just researched how much an Rtx 4090 is, and it's over £2k! What!

high frame rate 1440p with dlls s/b ok with the 4070 ti super i reckon....launch 24th jan, so check out review for that, and 4080 super launch 31st jan....4090 might be £2k, 4080super will be £980, 4070ti super £800

Thank you, I'll be sure to look out for it

I have a 6900xt and get around 275fps on MW3, though I have reduced a lot of the quality settings to maximise FPS. On ultra I can get around 165FPS.
I also run a 7700x and 32GB of 5600 RAM.

Edit: forgot to mention I game at 1440p

I built my first pc in about 15 years in November to do exactly this. Ditch the ps5 mainly for warzone. The good guys here on OC helped with the spec.

I went with a 7800x3d and a 7900xtx. Replacing a 500 quid console with a 2k pc.

The inbuilt cod benchmark tool scores my new pc at something like 230 fps on extreme settings. This marries up with the fps counter in the top corner in game seems to jump between 210-240 depending on where on the map I am.

Is your 1440p monitor 240htz? You’ll need to budget for a new monitor if not to actually see those frames.

The game will feel smoother but you’ll still lose fights to those lightning fast 12 year olds.

I’m pleased with my PC and will branch out into other games too soon but I’d only do this if you’re a really keen call of duty player and don’t expect it to make you an instantly better player.
