also, if you're not averse to getting 2nd hand parts, there are some good deals to be had on the mm. 1060 6gb on there for £280, 9and 16gb ddr4 ram that sold this afternoon for £110)
if you don't need to have a new computer now NOW, it might be a much cheaper option - or get you a much better computer for the same cost
Not completly averse to it...just like knowing i have warranty etc.

Stoopid mining causing prices to go boom :(

Reckon i might be able to squeeze a few more hundred into it if there is going to be a good jump in performance and/or futureprrofig it considerably more

depends on how old it is, as you well know, that sellers can (and do) help out if with warranty if the situation arises

good jump in performance and/or futureprrofig it considerably more
not really (speaking about my spec), unless you want to opt for a better gpu or go for the intel 8700k. otherwise it's a pretty balanced system.
maybe for a few bob more (£30) a gold 650w psu. but nothing major to change.
the 580/1060 6gb is good for 1080/1440p gaming for the next couple years i expect.

Is windows 10 advised, or am i going to be OK with 7?

I keep going back to looking at the pre-builds :( just taking the hassle away from having to do it myself as i work long shifts during the week and my cable management etc is horrendous

Based on your first build, would the below prove a decent(ish) build? Has more cores cpu / bigger gfx card / better PSU, and that is with windows included, and also it being prebuilt?

I really do appreciate the time you have put into helping :)

The GPU is weaker, 1800x isn't needed for gaming

and this is where my knowledge fails miserably >_< without checking each and every card for its full details im at a bit of a loss, which GPU would you suggest from the list available for that build, and does it look OK otherwise?

Rx580 or 1060 6gb

Also want the ram to be faster (3200mhz) - prebuild spec is 2400

And a bigger SSD. 120gb is small nowadays

really? i seem to get it around £1200 (granted it's inc windows - but you can get windows for cheaper than ocuk sells them)
I meant from the previous build i put up and amending what you suggested...its actually a bit cheaper. Ill have a look about for windows, but not having a dvd drive i presume ill have to transfer it to a usb. Unless it would be inlcuded in the build price.

umm, not quite...prebuilt is ~£100 dearer if specced similarly
(more if you can source windows for cheaper - pretty easy to do)

@G18241 alternatively, this:

My basket at Overclockers UK:
  • 1 x OcUK Gaming Vision VR Gaming PC - Intel 8th Generation 3.6GHz Quad Core = £1,063.02
    • Processor:Intel Core i5-8400 2.8GHz (Coffee Lake) Socket LGA1151 Processor - Retail
    • Memory:Team Group Vulcan T-Force 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 PC4-19200C14 2400MHz Dual Channel Kit - Grey (TLGD416G24
    • Graphics Card:*Build Stock* MSI GeForce GTX 1060 GT OC Dual Fan 6144MB GDDR5 Graphics Card
    • Solid State Drive:Samsung 500GB 850 EVO SSD 2.5" SATA 6Gbps 32 Layer 3D V-NAND Solid State Drive (MZ-75E500B/EU)
    • CPU Cooler:Alpenfohn Brocken ECO CPU Cooler - 120 mm
    • Case:phanteks Eclipse P400 Midi Tower Case - Black Window
    • WIFI:Unwanted
Total: £1,077.12 (includes shipping: £14.10)

and ask on customer services section how much it would cost to put in a 4tb drive instead of the 1tb already included.
for gaming, the intel i5 8400 is better, but it's a 6c6t part - and longevity may not be as good as getting the ryzen (6c12t) part.
decisions, decisions :p

I think the longevity of the Ryzen is more appealing to be honest...might see uf they can switch the RAM for some 3200 on that other build, and find a nicer case for it and go with that :)

Ok...last one i promise...i foolishly looked into the cases thread and was drawn in by all the pretty lights and nice cases...so have changed a couple of things to try and make it a nice looking system...im going to ring and ask if they can swap the RAM for the 3200Mhz (which i dont think is THAT much more expensive) and have knocked the SSD to 250GB as at the minute i only have windows and photoshop installed on it, so the small saving on that has buffered the other changes...just want to make sure everything is going to be OK with the other bits etc etc
