new gaming rig

If all your doing is gaming, web browsing, microsoft office etc, I would get a cheap AMD setup, you will have no problem playing games such as Crysis on a 24" TFT @ 1920x1200 with a decent graphics card such as the GTX 295.

By the way expect 4GB ram modules by the end of the year so dual channel 8GB incoming. ;)

Not when gaming and graphics settings are maxed out.

it's still a fair buit. it also offers upgradability, tri sli/crossfire. So when the system is ageing you can throw in some ridiculously cheap 2nd hand cards to significantly increase performance. tri channel ddr3.

it is clearly the better system and when spending over 1k and especially 1.3k is the only way to go imo.

does the AM2 heatsinks fit on to the AM3 motherboards ?
was looking at a Zalman CNPS9900-LED CPU Cooler (Socket 754/939/940/AM2/LGA775/LGA1366)

We aren't fan boys its just a better system in that price range. If your sticking wih amd

get 2 x 4890 rather than the nvidia gfx cards.
western digital black instead of the seagate

And possibly a better psu.
Other than that looks fine.

just thinking does the MSI motherboard support nvidia sli mode ?
in case i want to put in a extra gpu in the future ?
