Greetings,

I'm looking at upgrading my current gear this week! YAY!

i've asked about a 70-200 lens and the Tamron was recommended.

I shall be getting 1 body at the moment (Portrait/Weddings/Landscape) I mainly want to aim at weddings

Cart

5D MK3 + Grip and Batteries

24-70 Tamron
70-200 Tamron

Still looking for an in between for group shots 16-35?

& i won't be able to get any detail shots (macro) wedding rings etc

Already own

50mm 1.8 Canon
85mm 1.8 Canon
70-300 Sigma (F4)
600EX RT Flash Canon
400D

And my 400D kit lens which wont work with the MK3.

Are you going to rent a spare body for weddings, or use the 400D?

If you haven't used FF before I think you'll be surprised on how wide 24mm actually looks - the 16-35L is a great lens, but I think at times it's not essential if you have the 24-70. Depends on venue and your approach.

I would have thought the 24-70 will cover you for groups and should also focus close enough for the ring and other detail shots you don't really want or need a true macro for these anyway as you'd loose context.

Fr. Weddings not only will you need back up bodies but backup lenses. It is common to have the 24mm, 35mm and 85mm primes with the 24-70mm as the back up. Otherwise look at getting 2 24-70mm lenses in case you drop one. Same applies to flashes.

Thanks all,

I plan on using my 400d for a while untill i can afford another MK2/3
And plan on getting another flash also.

Will get a 16-35 i then i think :)

When I shot weddings I had what I thought was the most basic kit I could get away with:

2 camera bodies
17-35 f2.8-4
28-75f2.8
70-200 f2.8 (two of these)
35 f2
50 f1.4
85 f1.8
Two flashes (also manual backups)

The only true backups were a Sigma 70-200 f2.8 and two old 430EZ flashes, these generally stayed in the bag and were kit I already had anyway. All the other lenses would be used throughout the day, but if any lens failed I would have something else to cover it if needed. A backup flash is important in my opinion, although this depends on the environment.

Well its something I plan on building up at the moment so body+another flash will have to wait a bit.

Trying to be cheeky and get away with 1 or 2 lens to last me a while just to get some money coming in

And do the MK 2 batteries fit in the MK 3? trying to find a cheaper way as £50 a pop for 1 battery is :o

I know this :) just think is it worth it at the end of the day etc.

Slightly overwhelmed with all of this now! and i keep looking at more expensive gear

5D MK 3 under 2k

Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM 1.4k
Canon 24-70 2.8 1.5k

But 4.8K with no more room to do anything with a 5K budget :P

Scary innit? :D When I got my 5Dmk3 I had a 5k 'budget' and when you buy the camera, battery grip, two batteries, and in my case 85L & 35L, suddenly you've got not a lot of dosh left :D

I still want/need the 24-70mkII and the 70-200 mkII along with a flash. Flash first and wishing for a lottery win for the rest I think :D

its very overwhelming,

i had my mind set on getting Tamron stuff just to make do and get money in etc but after watching reviews on the 24-70 ii, n whatnot and the quallity and sharpness ill be getting canon gear i think but it lowers my budget.

and the 70-200 IS mk 2 is making me drool!

But just the body and 2x lens thats my 5k finished :D
