New Gfx card/hdmi issue

So I used to own a 5870 which i used to power my desktop monitor via dvi-hdmi cable and HDTV via a HdMI-HDMI cable.

Everything worked fine.

I've since upgraded to a 6970.

Now my monitor works fine using the dvi-hdmi cable but for some reason the HDTV just refuses to get picked up using the HDMI-HDMI cable. So I thouhgt dodgy HdMI port as the cable worked on the 5870.

But no, I tested the monitor using a separate hdmi-hdmi cable and worked fine.

So for some reason my normal HDMI-HDMI cable which worked fine on a 5870 doesn't work on a 6970 even though the HDMI slot does work.

Can someone shed some light please????

Check your TV's manual.

Sometimes you need to use a specific input to connect a PC.

And have you tried connecting your monitor HDMI-HDMI just to confirm there's nothing wrong with the cable or the HDMI socket on the graphics card?

Some more info. Tried the HDMI-HDMI cable using a dvi adapter and picture works on the tv fine but obviously no audio which is crappy.

So now i need to work out why the gfx card is not detecting the tv over HDMI-HDMI

Yeah tried that and worked flawlessly. So HDMI port is working.

On the TV manual point it worked before when i just plugged it in on the 5870 so doubt there's anything that needs to change on the tv side.

How do you do that?

OK so i've now got the HDMI audio driver installed but still doesn't solve the original issue of the hdtv nt being detected by the gfx card.

The little speaker icon in the bottom right hand corner on the task bar.Right click on it, and select playback devices! In there you should see HDMI. Make sure its selected as your default playback device from what I can remember.

Yeah i remember that from when it worked with the 5870.

It there but greyed out as it can't detect their being a HDMI cable in it. Tried the HDMI-HDMI again in my monitor and it comes available so again the HDMI port does work but just not with the hdtv.

First choice would be to get this issue solved but as an alternative would using a mini-display port - hdmi adapter work? Would i then be able to watch stuff on my hdtv with sound?

I don't think so.

As far as I know there's no sound output from the miniDP connector.

Well that leaves me with trying to fix this detection issue then.

Getting late so will revisit tomorrow - any more thoughts please let me know, thanks for the help so far.

Still working on a solution which doesn't require me to get a separate audio cables and run that between the Pc and TV.
