You can delete the old apps from the list... Not saying its perfect by any means but it may make it easier for you to scroll through whats important to you.
If you long press on 1 app than you can group select and delete
I know you are trying to help, But I know that already & it is a pita to go through each & every one. It is just a simple thing that should be there to begin with.
