New GPU and CPU installed - Crippled PC

Going to do the scientific approach tomorrow. Start off by reverting the whole shooting match back to stock ryzen 5 3600 and amd 5600xt. Then change the CPU first…. Test…… then the GPU….. test…..
PITA!

Before I reply to Tetras and Dreadi, I have taken out the 4070 super and put back in the rx5600. Problem solved. 144hz, no screen flicker, no packet loss….. nothing. Perfect as it was all morning.

So before I try home plugs or a long Ethernet cable, I’m wondering if there is a point? This card is not playing ball….. it has to go back.

My only thoughts now is perhaps it’s this particular manufacturer or maybe just this whole series of Nvidia cards?

Should I get another? Should I abort and go AMD?!!!

The problem is, we really have no idea what's going wrong here, so it is all just a crapshoot. This is one of those weird threads I can imagine the answer being: "I turned off the microwave and now it is fine"

Did you remove/clean drivers between swapping? It does all seem very weird...
Do you have or know anyone else that has another system that you could try the 4080s in to see if it's the same in another system?

Yes. Was careful to remove old drivers. Nvidia seems not to like AMD drivers! In fact twice has been fresh windows install. And I don’t think my microwave was on!

As for “trying” cards, I feel I really need to think of the likely best outcome….. not really fair on suppliers when stuff doesn’t work if it’s my system…… but who knows, this could have been a one off duff card?!

Very much appreciate all the advice here. Although it wasn’t a fix as such, it still ruled out a lot of idiot possibilities on my behalf

It could be. Personally: to avoid issues with an unnecessary return, I'd go with the simplest/cheapest troubleshooting options first, so e.g. ethernet cables are pretty cheap/readily available, but shielded certified HDMI/DP cables are somewhat less so.

Just a final follow up to close the thread….. new card ordered, same card, different manufacturer - no problems at all. Working flawlessly for numerous days.

So only conclusion that can be drawn is a one off duff card, or that Gainward make doesn’t play ball with my PC. The former seems by far the most likely.

Thanks all for your input. The people make the forum what it is
