hi

decided to upgrade my gpu so have advertised it, a r9 280x as its quite loud.

i have a LG ultrawide 1080p monitor and with no bleed, i'll be keeping it for sometime.

looking at power efficient 970's or 960's if good enough. budget up to about £280.

case will be a slightly smaller cm690iii and the psu is a 550 watt seasonic gold rated modular. mobo at the moment will be a replacement Z77x UP4 and i5 3570k probably running at 4-4.5 ghz like before.

960 is a bit too underpowered to recommend unless you have no choice because of budget and even then you can get more bang for buck with alternatives.

970 would be spot on for 1080p. The Gigabyte G1 970 I had was very cool and quiet. Quite a few 970s fans don't even spin until full load like the Asus and MSI. Infinity black looks the business too.

theres so many 970's its so hard to choose!!!

i want a quiet one but great performance at high res at 1080p

MSI and ASUS cards both run fanless at idle, the Gigabyte G1 cards are also quiet.

I seen a few reviews of GTX960's (ASUS I think) and it mentioned the fans didnt even spin up while playing some game or other.

Register it with EVGA when it comes. They are giving 2 years extra warranty on 970s and 980s registered before 21st March.

I had a EVGA 970 SC replaced by EVGA as it had terrible coil whine, the replacement had the same issue so I stepped up to a EVGA 980. Excellent customer service from EVGA for the RMA and the step up process, I cannot fault them for that.
