Hello,

I built the system in my sig a few years ago for gaming at 1650x1050 (60Hz) so my GTX 960 was perfect for the job. I recently upgraded my monitor to a 2560x1440 res (60Hz) and was wondering what the best card would be to play games at 60Hz at max settings?

I play a varied amount of game types, normally non demanding (5+ years old) RTS or indie games at the moment but I do like games such as the Far Cry franchise and recently Elite Dangerous.

I was thinking maybe a GTX 1070 but wanted to future proof as I do not upgrade normally for several years (I had a 8800GT before my GTX 960!) so I was wondering if I should pay the extra and get a GTX 1080? Would a 1080 be bottlenecked by my CPU?

I don't really have a budget in mind and I appreciate that GPU prices have shot up to crazy extremes. At the end of the day I just want to be able to play any game I choose without the FPS dropping below 60 if possible!

Any advice appreciated!

You're picked a bad time to get a GPU upgrade. Prices are just pathetic at the minute with price gouging by retailers. Probably best off looking at second hand in the mean time.

Yup the prices are really awful, normally I wouldn't spend more than £300 for a GPU. I paid £180 for my GT 960 back in 2015 and I thought that was a lot of money for a mid range card! I had been looking on the MM but I think the prices on there are also quite high for second hand.

What is the least I could get away with for 1440p 60Hz? Would a 1060 cut it at all?
