Hi all,

I've been mulling over getting a new card, maybe a 5850 to replace my ageing 4850. To be honest the 4850 has been great and even now plays NFS Shift & Dirt2 pretty well... but I have a need and that need is keeping me awake at night (well, not really...;))

Should I hang around for new cards (anything to expect in the near future?) and maybe get an SSD in the meantime, I'm hoping to have around £200 to spend.

I play at a max of 1680x1050.

Have I answered my own question!?

17 920 @ 3.7
Gigabyte EX58 UD4P
6Gb Corsair
2x 500 Samsungs

for £200 a 5850 will do perfectly. and if you need the extra juice you can always overclock it if you want.

your 2 500gb samsungs should be fine atm. should wait until ssd prices drop

5850 would be great as long as your upgrading your monitor sometime nearish as its a bit of a overkill for 1680 x 1050, also good luck finding one of them for £200! Maybe see if you could hunt about for the extra 25 pounds!?

So 5830 @ 150ish or a 5770 at 110ish would both work well @ 1680 x 1050.

EDIT: Just spotted one for 210 ish so maybe theres hope for sub £200 5850's!

:)

I might stretch the extra if its worth it..

Do you think the 5830 or 5770 would suffice at my resolution (which I have no intention of upgrading) and is it a worthy upgrade from a 4850?

I've got an 5770 and run everything on max settings and AA on 1860 x 1050. I have no problems. But i would advise, if you can stretch to a 5850 then OC it to a 5870 standard, good stuff ;). Wish i saved up abit more for it :(
