new gpu :)

Hi there,

If you think it's failing then you could send it off for an RMA with the reseller or ASUS (depending how long you have had it) - the standard ASUS warrantly length is 3 years so you should be covered if you bought it new. Even if you want an upgrade a brand new fully working replacement would be nice to sell on and make some money back.

As for ~£150 graphics cards, the usual suspects in this price range are the HD 6870 and GTX 560. However, recently the GTX 560 Ti has almost reached this range with this card. Therefore, if at all possible go with the GTX 560 Ti.

If you don't want to spend this much then I would go for a HD 6870 like this one which performs well and is currently very good value (edit: beaten :)).

It would be best to contact the shop you bought from - they usually have their own procedure for dealing with warranty repairs. Generally you will tell them the problem with the item, they will ask you do a few check to ensure it isn't working correctly then they send you an "RMA" number. You then post it off to the address they gave you (make sure you package it well) and write the RMA number clearly on the outside packaging as well as the address. Then hopefully in a couple of weeks you will receive a working replacement card of the same of greater performance (eg. they may give you a GTX 550Ti if theu don't have an GTS 450s left).

Ah, you bought it from a physical shop?

It is worth trying them as they should still honor the warranty, but if it's going to be a big song-and-dance then you may want to just contact ASUS directly. Usually they direct you back to the retailer - but they may take your RMA directly (doesn't hurt to ask).
