new gpu

At the moment im running a
Intel W3540 CPU running stock speeds.
1333mhz 12GB ram
on a supermicro X8sax.

Can u run a 1080gtx on this set up. Or will there be bottle necking?

You should be able to run the 1080 i think there will be a little bottleknecking going on but not anything major. Your motherboard mite need a bios update to take the 1080.

What resoloution you gaming at ?

It will be held back a fair bit depending on the title but should still be very nice, get the 1080 now and maybe upgrade the rest of the system later.

Am using a HD4850 at the moment and i cant do anything with it. Just bought GTA5. and i cant play it. The mother board is garbage.

1080 is overkill for that res you can use the money saved upgrading other parts.

Will be looking at getting a 1440, in the coming months. or maybe 4k How much support is there in games at the moment.
