New GPU

Hi All,

I'm on the hunt to replace my 980GTX.. Skipping the 10xx series completely despite seeing the 1080GTX is still considered a great card. I've got a 4k monitor. I've seen the a couple of RTX demo's and must admit these look awesome(although not many supported games yet) I've always used Nvidia mostly but as i don;t upgrade yearly anymore i'm not against swapping to a different card. I don't want to be spending stupid amounts of money(i'm definately not buying a RTX 2080! What are people going for nowadays? Is raytracing the future?

Maybe, somewhat, but right now the current gen can't do it well at much lower resolutions in the price bracket you're looking at. It's a gimmick at the moment. Buying an RTX card now won't run ray tracing games of next gen and barely runs them at current gen

The best bang for your buck is 5700 or 5700XT. You can flash the 5700 to an XT bios for a 10% performance boost.

I'm a moderate gamer at best and i don't upgrade every 1- 2 years. I bought my last GPU when Doom came out in 2016. The CPU, memory and motherboard was done last year. I've got used to 60fps with my current setup on older games and i like the smoothness. I was thinking of making the jump to 4k but i'm not keen on the drop in frames and the price is quite prohibitive as well. I'm thinking 1440p(all new terms to me) is prob more realistic. I will take a look at this 5700 as i'm not adverse from moving away from Nvidia.

Anymore opinions from people? Price point i'm thinking of around £400 quid(tops)

You've potentially got both AMD and Nvidia releasing new GPU's later this year, so now isn't the best time to be buying if you already have a working GPU. I'd hold out and see what's announced over the next few months

As said best bang for buck is 5700 /xt
Or a b grade 2070 super
Believe there might be some back in stock
Don't forget you can make offers on b grade so even more of a bargain
And though 90 days warranty with ocuk
Plenty people register them with manufacturers successfully

the higher the res the more you need to spend on GPU.

It's why all the people complaining about GPU prices should just buy 1080p monitors. or pay £500 plus for a GPU like the 2070 super.

is your monitor g sync? if so then you need to buy nvidia. if it's free sync then buy amd the 5700 is probably best. however i'd say drop to 1440P at the least. 4k isn't needed and it's a luxury which means you need to spend £1K on a gpu to enjoy it properly.

4k is definatly out of the window. My PC is not an out and out gaming machine. I'm happy with my mobo, cpu and i've just ordered 2tb SSD and 32gb of ram(i use photoshop a lot) In regards to my monitor, I don't think its either G sync or Freesync. Its a 28' Acer CB280HK. I will do some digging on the GPU and make sure it's the last part i upgrade.

running nvidia g sync on 2560x1440p 144hz and my asus 2070 super dual evo oc works well probably cant max on some games but just lower the settings a tiny bit in the game
