New Gpu

It's been a while, but I remember running wow on an geforce4200 , and mostly getting 60fps at 1024x768.. which was the style at the time. I know they have updated the engine but it's kinda wild that the 7800xt isn't fast enough.

The 9070xt is quite a bit better at raytracing and has fsr4 support, and is very slightly better at raster (but not always), the 7900xt has slightly more ram.

I'd get the 9070 XT.

The only thing the 7900 XT has going for it is the VRAM. The 9070 XT is better for everything else.

That said, I have no idea how either card performs in WoW.

More VRAM the better, that’s why I looked at the 7900 xt, did have a quick glance at the 5090 but with a recommendation of a psu of 1000w that’s out. Hmmm not sure what to do.

It would have to be REALLY important to get the 7900 XT for me. RDNA4 is a big upgrade on RDNA3. E.g. FSR4 doesn't compare to the previous version, it is much better and the ray tracing performance is night and day.

This. I had both. RX 9070 XT is the better card from AMD, with FSR 4. Plus uses RT now (WOW uses RT, I mean).

About the 9070XT, some of the cheaper cards are performing as the more expensive models, while running cooler. It’s a Win-Win.
 
No offense but if you mostly play WoW why do you care so much about vram? If anything for WoW even a 9060XT is overkill
 
I've had my 7900XT for nearly 2 years now and was very happy with it at the time, but now I would 100% buy a 9070XT. 16GB will be plenty for most* games for a while yet I imagine (except maybe 4k native with heavy use of RT/PT, but GPU grunt will be an issue before RAM there too)

*there will always be the odd exception, but just turn a setting or two down a notch and it'll be fine!

We don't know the performance requirements for GTA 6. But the PS5 pro has 16gb of "game" memory so it's reasonable to think that a16gb GPU should be enough for the base game assuming it's fast enough.
