As the topic states i just got my new 7990 card today.. before that i was running 2 x 5870 in crossfire and had no issues.
Booted up the half life 2 lost coast benchmark and it worked fine... Booted up the bioshock inifinite benchmark.. the second it starts the computer just shut off then restarted up. Tryed it again and the exact same thing...Does this sound like a PSU issue? i have an Arctic pro 950 and would have thought 950 watts would have been okay?

That's not a brand that I have heard of the 7990 uses a lot of power on load it obviously shuts off.

I used to have a 750w rated cit psu that couldn't run a single gtx 560ti, then bought a cooler master 650w and it ran 2 and an overclocked cpu no problem.

Im guessing it worked on the lost coast because thats such an old game it doesnt use up much power but soon as i hit the bioshock benchmark on ultra there wasnt enough power and it just shut down?

It does sound like PSU issue but before you start spending money it would be best to make sure its not software in anyway what so ever and the best way to do that is to format your drive and reinstall windows and the latest Catalyst beta driver. If the problem then still persist i would change the power supply. You would need atleast 750 watt with 57 amps on the 12v rail. Atleast thats what the info i can find says. If any know better please feel free to correct me.

PSU is one of the few things i feel is worth "overdoing" cause in the end what you get is a cleaner and more stable power source. I myself are running a corsair AX860 which is platinium model and its the most fantastic PSU ive ever had the pleasure of using. But its a bit expensive but well worth it as you wont have to buy a PSU again for the next 7 years atleast.

Yep ran the valley benchmark.. 2 seconds in shuts off then restarts. I mean iv never heard of the Arctic pro model and its 4/5 years old now. I know it says 950 watts but its probably giving out no where near that.
Im running 8gb of ram and a 3570k at 4.4 at the moment plus the 7990 now.

The side is off...fan is on auto.. idling at about 38-40 degrees. Whats the best program to use that record the temps so when it shuts off i can see what temp it got too?

It's not always just the amount of power a PSU supplies but how stable the different voltages are. The only reference I can find to this PSU is that it's discontinued or goes back 4 years.

As has been said many times on here don't skimp on the PSU, get a quality brand and be prepared to pay.

I dont think its heat...According to the afterburner log file it got to 40 degrees and 37 degrees at 60% fan speed at the time of shutdown..I mean literally the second the game loaded it goes off. Its also running at 32 degrees now with 60% fan speed at idle.
Any idea on what PSU would be a good one to go for.. As i'v said iv had this one for 4 or so years now so have no idea really what brads are good and what wattage i would need for this setup.

Decided im going to order a new psu, its the only part i haven't updated in 4 years but have no idea which one to go for...... are they all compatable? What wattage am i going to need for this.

My spec is

Gigabyte Z77-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard
i5 3570k @ 4.4
Samsung Green 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz Dual Channel
HIS 7990

Pretty much all new PSU's will support all current systems, PLEASE stick with a quality product from companies like Corsair, BeQuiet! amongst others. Before you buy ask on here, someone will have had experience of most makes.

I've recently used an RM650 from Corsair and it's excellant, but I have used BeQuiet in the past with good results too.

lol... I'm sure that really pushed the 7990 to its limits :D

Lol yeah that was just part of a ton of benchmarks i was doing lol.
I was thinking though. I had no issues when i was running 2 x 5870's in crossfire and the power requirements arn't much different to a 7990 are they?

Almost definitely PSU issue I would have thought if your pc is just shutting off and restarting. A 7990 will suck a lot of juice.

Looks like a good PSU..
Im wondering if this would be an issue as someone has said in the review.
"My only flaws are that the cpu cable is a little short if your psu fits at the bottom of the case like mine does."

Mine is at the bottom too. I would guess this wont be an issue but you never know.

You want to check detailed reviews on PSUs, apart from plenty amps on 12v rail, make sure the ripples are low. Corsairs in general are very good. Nzxt hale90s too. There's allot of decent brands some overpriced tho imo

I was also wondering with the cables... can you just leave the ends that are connected to the components in place and just remove the other ends from the PSU and connect them up to the new PSU? I would imagine they would be the exact same type of cables no?
