My specs are Radeon 7800 2GB
i5 3570 (not overclocked)
16GB

I have just restarted WoW after a few years but I think my graphics card is struggling at Med/High settings.

Can somebody recommend a good video card. I play at 1080p but hopefully will get a higher res monitor soon.

I don't intend to play any other game apart from WoW, and I don't mind between AMD or Nvidia but it needs to be quiet as I use this PC for work also.

What budget are you looking at? I would have thought an R9 380 or a GTX 970 would be fine for 1080p.The more CPU grunt you have the better in mmos so may be try overclocking your cpu. If you aint got an SSD that will help as well.

Budget would like to keep it less than £250 or there about.

If your budget is under £250 and it's primarily for WoW, look at the RX 470 and 3GB GTX 1060.

A bunch of members in my guild recently upgraded to RX 480's and are in heaven.

The RX 470 isn't that much slower, and saves you good bit of money. The GTX 1060 isn't bad either, as WoW does use some NVIDIA effects like HBAO+, and tends to favour NV a bit more.

Can't go wrong with either really; just make sure to get a decent aftermarket cooler one. Stock coolers and quiet do not go well together.
 
I would say get an RX480 8GB or a GTX1060 6GB and be done with it. WoW does tend to favour Nvidia cards but since the last tests I saw there have been two major updates since which might have change the relative positions now.

Oh yes, the latest graphics updates have been hard on some systems.

In the current invasions I've seen my FPS tank to 22 when there's a large number of players and demons all concentrated and fighting it out.

The New max render distance is especially taxing.
Between setting 8 - 10 you easily lose around 20-25FPS simply flying around. Add in severe combat in an open zone and even top end system struggle.

There's also very little difference between friend's MSI 1070 and my Fury X. He gets about 10fps more in some situations, but he runs without AA as well.

Also if, and that's a big if; Blizzard ever move to DX12 and Vulkan AMD will still do well. :)
 
Yeah WoW's graphics engine has been updated a bit for Legion, so the settings go a lot higher now (i.e. medium is like the old high), render distance being one of the large increases.

For WoW specifically, the 6GB GTX 1060 will likely perform better, because WoW favours Nvidia and is also very CPU hogging, and Nvidia do better with weaker CPUs.

The RX480 however will be the better long term bet for all games in general. It will likely always outperform the GTX 1060 in new games and as drivers mature. Much like the GTX 770/680 vs the HD 7970/R9 280X.

From what I gather that test is literally them walking and standing around in an uncrowded area!! :p

TH,did some WoW tests but they were a fly through.

Computerbase.de or pcgameshardware.de did some tests too,but I have not seen any recent one for the latest patches.

But in general have noticed my Nvidia cards tended to be better in D3 than the AMD ones if you looked at FPS counters.
 
Nvidia does strictly better than AMD in DX11, so it's to be expected. They also seem to do a bit better with Blizzard games in general too. Now, it doesn't really matter that much because either the 480 or 1060 are overkill for WoW, but worth noting anyway. Personally, I'd go for the 480 Devil if it were in stock, which is also the quietest.
 
I've always had better performance with NVidia cards rather than AMD in WoW, as this is your main focus the 1060 6GB would be your best choice at £250.

It performs great in WoW at 1080p even with the graphics slider at 10 and 2x MSAA. The fan profile is pretty aggressive once its above 70c or so but I've set a custom fan profile that maxes at 50% so long as its below 85c which means its more or less silent on the desk just behind the monitor. It also will overclock to over 2100mhz if you're interested in trying that :) My 50% fan profile and 83c target temp means the boost drops to a 1950mhz average once its warmed up, and like it say is whisper quiet still.

Warranty length granted but the customer service isn't that bad? I had no problems getting a refund for my Palit Super Jetstream 980Ti when it died. It took about 3 weeks from shipping the card off to getting the money but there a many manufacturers where this is the case as they are based in Hong Kong etc.

EVGA would be the best choice if you want the best CS and returns experience.
 
1060 as Nvidia DX11 drivers are less of a CPU hog which is very important in a game like WoW where the CPU is often the limiting factor.

Well that's my point 3 weeks is a long time, especially compared to the alternatives you have. Not to mention sometimes it can be even longer.

So why get that, when it's not that much cheaper, when you can instead get absolutely stellar service and quick times?
