hi can you help i'm totally out of date not that a ever was in.

I currently have the following barton 2500 nf7s 1g 400ddr ATI Radion9600se. my daugter needs an upgrade in computer so might as well give her my old one or most of it.

Could you help on the spec of the following
CPU £100
gfx £100 PCI or AGP so much choice now days please offer some advice

mb £60 i normally buy Abit but would like alternative recommendations

I play games such as call of duty cs.s fear etc that type of game.
my barton over clocks to 3200 with no problem.
for the price is it worth up grading the cpu and motherboard what would you recommend?
Or for the price would i be better buying cheap parts for a replacement for my daugters giving here the graphics card and buying my self a new card? she really only plays simm

Bump your CPU upgrade to about £120 and get yourself a s939 mobo with a nice opteron, that alone will give you a nice speed boost in games.

something like:

AMD Opteron UP 144 San Diego 1.8GHz 1MB Cache (Socket 939)
£104.95 £104.95
MB-120-AS Asus A8N5X nForce4 (Socket 939) PCI-Express Motherboard
£49.95 £49.95
GX-080-LT Leadtek GeForce 7600 GT 256MB GDDR3 VIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express)
£119.95 £119.95
Subtotal £274.85

VAT £49.55
Total £332.65

use your 1 gig of ram

Thanks for the replys

Out of interest how much quicker is a Opteron UP 144 San Diego 1.8GHz compared to a 3200 barton. I know it doesn't work the same any more but is there any table that says it's equiverant to say 4000Mhz for example? or is it not possible to compare to the old processors as the cache for example is a lot bigger.
Cheers.

I would not really compare them TBH.The opty 144 has a full 1mb cache and is easily overclockable to 2.4-2.6ghz.

Its a different cpu altogether!

lo again

looking at the processors both of you have recommend the same processor whats the benifit of this one over this one AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Venice 90nm (Socket 939) approximately the same price this will proberbly answer my previous question 1.8 - 3.2
cheers agian

The opty will probably clock better. The opterons undergo more stringent testing due to their server platform status.

Opty for the win :p

Thanks i'll give it a whirl.

The graphics card you've recommended is on pre-order do you know when it may be availiable and do you know of any reviews for it
also the processor is the retail version any ideas if it comes with a cooler.
cheers

All retail opty's come with a cooler. Not sur about stock on the 7600 GT.

The BFG is in stock and its a tenner more but you get a lifetime warranty with it.
