Hi just found the forum I hope you guys can help me.
Got a pretty decent (for me) computer a while ago but never really did much gaming on it. Just downloaded Witcher 2 and it doesn't run that well. I'm thinking of getting a new graphics card and actually stating to use the pc before it all gets outdated.

What do you think would be the better buy, the gtx 780ti vs the gtx 980? Will be playing at 1080p on a 50" plasma with the strong possibility of a 1440p+ monitor down the line. I have a PS4 that I play on now and I really want it to be a major step up, will the improvement be worth it? Looking to max out games like Witcher 3, skyrim etc

computer specs:
windows 7 64bit
intel core i7-3770 cpu @ 3.40ghz 3.90ghz
AMD Radeon HD 6670
Motherboard Name Gigabyte GA-B75M-D3H
16gb ram
not sure what powersupply I have probably need to upgrade it

thanks
ali

yeah I'll have to get it opened up and check as soon as I get the chance.
I'm pretty sure I'll need a more powerful one but that shouldn't be too bad as long as it fits right?

I've had a look at the 970 they look nice and the price isn't bad, but will I see enough of a jump to be satisfied? If I start spending money I'm tempted to try and get something that will really blow me away or I might feel like I should have stuck with the PS4?

Most power supplies are pretty standard sizes but some can be a bit longer than others so might be worth checking how much space you have a available with tape measure if it isn't a recognised make/brand/model.

With a graphics card upgrade you will max out Skyrim for sure; The Witcher 3 isn't out yet so it's hard to say for definite, but I'm sure it would be a huge step up from console.

The B75 chipset on your motherboard is a fairly budget one, but it shouldn't hold you back too much unless you start getting in to the realms of multi-GPU setups or extremely CPU-heavy games that like a high overclock.

ok cool so I should be fine if I go that route if not a little worse off.
I guess I'm just looking for the best price to performance compromise around this price range. Coming from the PS4 I know everything will be a step up but I want it to be enough of a jump to justify it

haha I took long to type, sounds like it will be

edit:
yeah I was a little worried about the motherboard but was hoping I'd be able to get away with it at least for now. I wouldn't mind upgrading it a little further down the line if it came to it

Don't bother with the 780ti, too much power draw, old tech, and the same price as the 970. You have stated that you may want to upgrade to 1440p at some point, I would go 100% for the 980, especially if you go for a 144hz monitor. It might be expensive now, but cheaper than buying a 970 and then replacing it in a few months time.

980 is most future proof, especially if you go for one of the faster ones. Depends if money is an issue or not, though.

my 980 maxes out skyrim easily! a 970 is supposed to be similar at 1080p so i would imagine it would do perfectly well for you :)
