Great cards for the money!! :D :D :D

hmmm 7870 or 660? or put the extra for a 7950 wheh will this indecision end.

is the 660 the same as the 7870 fps wise? wonder what the oc ability is like

to be honest, was expecting something more from the GTX 650, something more than just a 640 with some better memory, that seems like a bit cheeky of NVIDIA.

House mate was looking at getting a new card today and mentioned the EVGA 650. I expected it to be a few hundred as "new" and "nvidia" don't tend to exist at the same time.

Anyway, checked out Tom's Hardware and read their lowdown: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/geforce-gtx-660-geforce-gtx-650-benchmark,review-32523.html

If you don't wanna check it out, essentially, for around 100 quid it holds its own against the Radeons although don't expect 50fps from the latest games at max everything. Interestingly, the EVGA board comes with SLI compatibility whereas the ASUS and reference model used for testing didn't.

I'm now considering upgrading my 275 now.

problem is the GTX 660 is too fast for two GTX 650 to catch, and the 660 would work out slightly cheaper, keep in mind the card has just came out as well so hoping to see perhaps some tweaks to price, perhaps some minor drops as market normalises after the 650/660 introduction, for ~£160 a 660 would be unbeatable card, but at the moment at ~£180 it is £30 more than the 7850, but doesn't have £30 more performance when one considers the 7850 can get some nice boosts from overclocking, but if the 660 was £160 or there about its a no brainer.

Edit: personally thinking of getting rid of my 4870X2 and picking up either a HD 7850 or a GTX 660, but going to wait a couple weeks and see if prices change after launch, since both are a decent upgrade from the X2 and both consume tons less power than the X2 as well, which is an added bonus.

The 660 seems to be priced half decent. Competes with the 7870, priced in and around that price. Not sure what it overclocks like though.

The 650 is just...pssh...Kinda like the 640, way too expensive for what it offers.

Well it doesn't considering the cheaper HD7770 walks all over it.

From your own link:

http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/geforce-gtx-660-geforce-gtx-650-benchmark,review-32523-24.html

HD7770 offers up 181% the performance of the GT640 whilst the identically priced GT(X - lol) 650 manages only 145.7%.

The 650 needs to drop to sub £75 to make it at all viable.

Considering you can get 7950's for around £220 on offer, it's a no brainer if you're willing to put 40 quid extra in.

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-049-HS&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1673

after looking at the reviews this may only be £220 but its very noisy and slower than the other 7950's i would rather spend more to get a card i could actually oc at some point that performs better out of the box and has a decent cooler that isnt very noisy.

but it is a good deal if these things dont really bother you.

I'm fairly impressed by the 660, it looks a better deal than the 660Ti. For example in the tomshardware test its interesting that in the memory bandwidth test it performs identically to the Ti version at 4x MSAA and outperforms it at 8x MSAA!

Looked at various reviews, I'm honestly surprised with the performance of GTX660 comparing to the GTX660Ti...it is like the GTX670 comparing to the GTX680, with pretty much 90%+ of the performance, for 75% of the price.

Overall the GTX660 and 7870 at trade blows with each other with both at around the same stock clock speed (980MHz/boost 1033MHz vs 1000MHz) and priced simliarly to each other, but with the GTX660 offering PhysX feature as bonus, whereas 7870 on the other hand offering £20 worths of games.

I have to say...the GTX660 is probably the first card of Nvidia this gen that's actually worth buying for people that are not looking at spend £250+. It is like the "GTX560Ti" of this gen has finally arrived!

Just skimmed it and thought I might share a little info. I'm no tech junkie and not in the market for a card so I was just looking at the squiggly lines and numbers and it seemed, for the price, pretty good.

I didn't realise (or missed :)) the bit about the HD7770 being cheaper - cheers.

Yes toms seem to really have it in for the 660ti
