Hi Guys,

I just want to check if Im throwing money at an issue thats not there. Ive just bought a GTX280 and wondering if Ill be holding it back (much) with my E5200 (only recently installed the bugger too :p).

I know GTA4 is the only game that prefers quad-core and as I really only use it for gaming, image manipulation and browsing, I doubt its gonna give me a massive boost for the money...

Be fun to clock though as Ive got a good air cooling setup...

I bought it on the idea that as a cheap chip I could swop it out for the E0s or whatever else becomes more useful (dual vs quad). With Core i7 coming out so quickly I didnt add that to the equation and its probably out of miseryness that the £250 I could put towards a C2Q might be better spent on Ci7 in my mind...

If someone can give me an idea how much the GFXis held back then I cant help but bow down to logic and replace it. Unfortunately I cant find many E5200 GTX280 benchmarks (wonder why :p). Really want to make sure my new rig flies...

I would probably say if your E5200 is clocked over 3Ghz at least then it would match quite well with the 280GTX. For most games, you'd probably be able to play them fine at whatever high settings you desire and your own personal view of how smooth they will run. GTAIV requires retarded specifications and for a badly ported game, so it is kind of moot point anyways. Besides, it doesn't harm to try and then find your own little tweaks.

Here's some figures when i played with an E5200 and GTX280 XXX edition.
E5200 @ 10 x 360 - 3.6Ghz
3Dmark06 - 15970
Crysis at 1280x1024 default test settings: 34.58/94.61/71.89 (min/max/av.)
Hope that helps :)

Yeah an overclocked E5200 would be a really nice gaming CPU for most users, good to see the price is dropping back closer to £55! :)
