New guitar delivered, is cracked

After waiting two weeks for a certain music shop to get their act together and deliver my order, I unpack it at work this morning and it's got a flippin' great crack in it (pics later).

.. so it's decision time - the shop is trying to get an ETA from the supplier for a replacement but it's looking like at least a week. So my dilemma is, do I wait for a replacement or get something different.

The guitar in question is an ESP DV8-R Dave Mustaine V:

.. and I'm considering changing to an Ibanez S2170FB:

or S2170FW:

Opinions, please? I'm expecting the non-metal brigade to plump for the Ibanez and I'd love another one to go with my RG550 but it only has 22 frets and I'm not sure the pups will have a high enough output for some serious rocking? I do really like the finish of the FW but I've seen some that have some really pants-looking grain on it, looked like leopard spots from a distance..

Seem like you've enough quitars of the same type.

Sounds like it tbh, but I'm unsure of the guitar's specs you own...

I have to admit, the 8 inlay is possibly the coolest inlay ever.... but have fun sitting down ;)

I'd go for something a little different (Says the guy who owned 3 guitars of the same make), but thats just me

We were given a tasty bonus at work and I wanted to invest some of it in some new gear (already bought a Mode 4 half-stack).

I decided to look for a non-super strat model, my current guitars both do their jobs admirably so I wanted something that sounded/looked a little different. I was seriously considering a Les Paul but it's not quite in fitting with my style of playing, and when I came across the spec of the DV8-R I was pretty much sold - mahogany body, 24 frets, no trem (didn't want a third floater!), decent-output pups.

Pictures of the damage, the crack runs from the front scratchplate round to the back by the pot cover:

Yes, the 8-ball inlay does look pretty cool though:

.. and shown with my DXMG for size (it's huge!):

They are going to send out a replacement asap, so I'm leaving the damaged one in the box until they come to collect it.

You've already got (2?) floating bridged guitars, why not look into the RGA series? I have an RGA121 (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v67/Andelusion/frontfull01.jpg) it's sort of between the S series and the RG series. It has 24 frets (a must for me) but a fixed bridge (I prefer fixed to floating now) and a nice arched top which makes the guitar really comfortable actually and a nice contrast from the RG shape of my Jem.

It's strung with 10s also which makes it great for a bit of drop tuning.

Edit: gahh, double-posted (nearly)

I looked at the RGA series, but I wanted maximum bang-per-buck (I had a budget of £800) so wanted to get what I could :) Part of the reason for the V was it is fixed bridge, I get plenty enough tweaking time from my others (both the RG550 and DXMG are floating trem).

As you say, 24 frets is pretty much a must and the mahogany body was something I was looking to get for the sound and sustain. I've had a bit of a play on the damaged one, albeit unplugged and it has a real nice action and a fast neck.. can't wait to get a usable one to put through it's paces!

The RGA121 is incredible bang for buck, the RGA321 is a bit pricey for the upgrades over the 121.

My RGA121 cost me £350 (from ebay..) and plays just as good if not better than my £1500+ Jem.

Loads of people say 24 frets is a must, but what do you guys honestly play which requires notes that high? I have a 24 fret guitar but I never normally go all the way up there... and if I do its not very often. I'm happy to bend up to the 24th!

Asking out of curiosity :p

It's not just the fact you've got an extra 2 notes it's that the design allows access to the frets you'll use more often much easier.

As the saying goes:

"It's better to have something and not need it than need it and not have it at all"

99% of the time I won't need to go that high, but there bound to be one song I want to play that has a note or notes up there somewhere.

And what he ^^^^^^ said :p

I guess you have a point there people. However, I have played a nice 22 fret guitar (Which I also own) that has just as good access I find. Besides the point maybe.

Apparently there were some guitars in the 80's with 27 frets, eek!

Back on topic, to the OP:

Didn't you just get that other guitar with your mode four like 2 weeks ago?

And you want another one?!

EDIT:

My bad, I went and found the old thread, the DV8 was the guitar you were waiting for.

... send me money..... ;)

Complain :)

and he/she should either refund your money or offer to fix your guitar. IF they dont just go around saying the're rubbish :P

Thought of just getting a regular Strat? A USA Fat Strat falls in that price range and they sound amazing give a great range of tone and come in colours besides black :p. And if you don't like the trem lock it off with a block of wood.
