New Guitar :) Recommend me an amp

I had to use a Line 6 Spider over the weekend and it sounded surprisingly nice, got a few compliments from other musicians for the clean sound. Didn't try it distorted though.

for the price a very good buy indeed :)

if you're only looking to spend that much then its a brilliant amp :)

they've "spiced them up" with the metal grille and fancy chrome logo. but if it were me i'd buy some cloth grille and replace it :D

the cloth grilled ones whilst they may look well overpriced they have many more little things to them :p

Who ever said Spiders are rubbish is talking nonsense, the insane setting on them is the same as the Flextones, and outstanding, great for heavy rock

Corts are very good guitars, and if thats your first ever guitar ... its a beauty !!

amps to avoid ... VOX and Laney. This is where i get flamed by purists on about "valve tone" forget it, just avoid VOX and avoid Laney. Laney have only really started making good amps in the last year or two, and for the price of a good one, its taking you up into Vetta territory. The earlier Linebackers where absolutely chronic ... I dont like Marshalls, not that they dont sound good, they do, but you have to get them to point 8 on the richter scale to get them sound that way! Fenders are usually nice for a warm clean tone, and Peavey are in general good all rounders, although the distortion on them can be a bit nasal

I recently tried a Roland Cube amp, and it blew me away

go try them all out !!

:)

devils advocate or what?!?!

a single post saying completely opposing EVERYONE in the thread pretty much!

i was playing on a cheap cort the other day at my uni "school of rock" because i didnt take my ibanez, and i ended up just watching because it was unplayable :p

you can buy the Laney VH100-R for £600 and under, and thats one hell of an amp! really puts out some nice "tube tone" ;) (but thats mega out of price range for this discussion)

i dont see whats wrong with vox amps though? still confused at where your qualm with them is, mine sounds on average 57.2 times better than a roland cube the last time i compared them!
and the "cheap" valvetronix amps sound better than cubes too :p

So something like the Vox AD-30VT would be a good buy?

I say yes but like I said before go to the guitar shops with your guitar and try out the line6, vox, and roland amps. I wouldn't go by other peoples opinions alone or you may end up disappointed. I am 95% sure myself that a Vox AD30vt is going to be better than any of the similarly priced Line6 ones though but you may not feel the same way for what kind of sound you want to get.

If you are not particularly amazing at the moment then let a guy in the shop play something using your guitar and the amps mentioned.

Fender amps are out of your price range, but as mentioned are pretty good. I'm thinking of stepping up to a Peavey Classic 30 but then I would need an attenuator unless I want to drive my neighbours up the wall.

Ok, thanks for the suggestions all. I've gone with the VOX AD 30VT as I've heard a few people mention it now. It doesn't sound like I can go wrong with it :)

Yeah, I bought it from the link I posted above. My local guitar shop didn't have an vox or roland amps to try out :( and the only other guitar shop I know of is all the way in town (yes I'm that lazy :p). So many others like it, I'm assuming I will aswell :)

cheap floyds are EVIL!

i always blocked mine off, hell i even blocked off my ibanez lo-pro when I had one
