New Hard drive not recognised???

I opened up my comp and removed one of the WD sata HD's and hooked up the Maxtor Sata HD. Now the computer is not recognising this? the only way of connecting this is via the sata cable (is this correct?).

is it a new drive? if it is then it probably just needs partitioning, which you can do via the disk management console in the control panel of XP

I got this drive 2/3 months ago. I cannot partition it as it is not showing up.

if its not showing up in the disk management console (or the bios) then i can only think that it's faulty

I think it might be the sata cable as a bit has broken off which I have just found.

thanx for the offer ACP but I've got it fixed now. I went and got a new cable and I am now partitioning the driver. Thanks again
