So, I've finally grabbed an SSD, so naturally want to make it my boot drive. If I unplug all the other drives except for it, and install windows onto it before I reconnect the other drives, then it will be all ready and I won't have the problem I had once before where I ended up with all the boot information on a different hard drive, or anything like that. However, won't I then end up with two hard drives with Windows installed, which both want to boot up? How can I stop this?

Also, once I have the SSD working, I can delete the windows folder from my current hard drive, and will I easily be able to access all the stuff in my documents from the other drive? I know windows can sometimes be a little fiddley with security and permissions and so on, how simple will this be?

Thanks! :D

make sure you backup/copy out anything you had on desktop/my documents etc (stuff thats part of your normal windows setup), BEFORE you get rid of your windows folder then you can tidy things up properly.

just install onto the ssd and make sure thats the boot device it should ignore the other windows install as it doesn't know about it.

Uninstall all drives,
install windows on your ssd Make sure to us AHCI before installing windows on ssd
if you have an external drive,
when windows is working ok plug your old windows hdd drive in and use windows easy transfare tool to move your files to your external drive,
format the old windows drive, then use windows east tansfare tool to move your files back to any drive you wish.

Thanks for the fast replies! Unfortunately, my Users folder is 262Gb, mostly thanks to my itunes folder. Then again, that's something I could just cut and paste out of the 'music' directory couldn't I?
Thanks for the reply with the rest of the thinks :)

Before you install windows, when you are in bios to select AHCI make sure the boot order for the drives has your SSD first. Save in bios, reboot, turn off then disconnect drives. Turn on to install windows.

Then when you attach the other drives the bios can only boot from the SSD
