New hard drive problem

I went to OCUK this morning and bought this - Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB

It installed OK after going into Computer Management and then I started my transfer from other drives.
I've done this a total of 3 times now which has taken quite a pert of my day but it seems that wnen it gets to about 1/3 full it suddenly decides to act up and the drive letter disappears :(
So I format > start again > gets to about a 1/3 full and once again it disappears again.

This time I've re-booted 5 times and the drive still hasn't shown up.

Any suggestions before I take it back?
 
Mmm... Strange, indeed.. I have that same drive, and behaves amazingly..

You should check the cable to see if it's seated properly on both SATA port and drive..
Didn't specify your mobo.. Perhaps a Bios update in order to support that kind of drive (capacity)???..

Run a chkdsk on the drive, and then utilities from the drives manufacturer. Will let you know if it's DOA or not. SMART readings can also give you a better idea.
 
Hmm, there was errors on it but I don't know if it will fix the problem -

If its still not behaving then you could try reformatting it (I know that would mean you'd lose the transfer progress you've made but it may be the only choice :S). And then if that doesn't stop it then may need to get a replacement.
 
Sorry, seems to be a faulty disk.. :(

Several years ago, I had 2 Seagate disks and both failed after 6 months, so I didn't bought a Seagate drive since, until a couple months ago where 1 of my WD Black ended up dead because it wanted to (never got a clue why)..
Seeing that the prices of new drives crowled into the skies, the only good price/performance ratio drive available was the 2TB Seagate, with 64MB cache and 7200rpm.. So, clearing out my mind, I went not for 1 but 2 (a Hybrid unit) of their drives..
So far, they run flawless.. :p

But, reading you, opened a deep hidden door in my mind.. :eek:

If you can, RMA it.. Perhaps you could end up with a solution, but it won't be a confident drive anymore..

I've formatted it 3 times.
It seems to get to a 1/3 full and then goes stupid.

Flippin hell 3288 bad remapped sectors already with 98 soon to be reallocated.. yes... yes i think shes dead captain :D Guess its just a straight swap at ocuk? Don't think you need any more evidence lol.. That drive must've had a bad blow or drop during its shipping or storage.
