I currently only have 1 HDD: a Samsung Spinpoint 200Gb SATA. I've never really found it that quiet to be honest. It has a noisy click when seeking that the reviews never seem to mention.

Anyway, I could do with a drive for backup, so I was thinking I could retire the Samsung to an external USB2 enclosure and get a new, similarly sized drive for internal use. I understand the Western Digital AAKS are currently the drives of choice. Are they considered quiet?

Also, is this enclosure suitable?

Thanks

That enclosure is no use, it's for 2.5" laptop HDDs, you need one for a 3.5" drive. Something like this is what you need.

If you want more than 250Gb then the WD AAKS drives are the ones to go for, if you can live with 250Gb then the new Seagate 7200.10 is slightly faster (but make sure it's the ST3250410AS model).

Thanks for the replies gents.

I should have noticed that the enclosure wasn't the right size...:p

I can definitely manage with 250Gb - I've only just used about half of my 200Gb drive, and loads of that is programs I haven't used more than once. I'll take a look at the Seagate 7200.10.:)
