Hey guys,

Ive currently got a 500GB HDD that is holding my music and various games, its now starting to fill up a bit and im guessing ill need to upgrade/add in the near future.

My music folder currently is around 80GB so my first thought was to get a 120GB SSD and put my music files on that.

Im quite happy to pay £50 for a drive for my music but im thinking is it just overkill to put my music and its respective player (mediamonkey) on an SSD? Im guessing I wont see any real performance increases which isn't necessarily what im looking for so im fine with that.

So why would I use a SSD against a HDD in this instance?

One thing I presume that a SSD drive for my music will benefit from is that I never remove anything once its on there, meaning it won't need to re-write half as much as normal, if at all. This would lead to increased life expectancy right?

Anyway is it a good idea to go for the 120GB SSD or is it easier to just go HDD? Obviously the latter is cheaper but what other pros do the SSD's offer?

Thanks in advance!

If it's just for personal files music, photos, videos etc. SSD is a overkill. It's best to use it for operating system and few programs if you want 120gb ssd.

Personally I got 120gb samsung evo 840for operating system + few programs and 1tb wd blue hardrive for games music etc.

Linus Tech tips did quiet good video on ssd vs hdd. Quiet interesting to watch and informative.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the info.

I do currently have a 120GB SSD for my OS and utility programs, ive also got a 1TB HDD for steam games and then a 500GB HDD for music and non-steam games, its the latter drive that is filling up (as is the steam drive but I can't bear buying a larger drive at the moment).
