NEW HD is not found/seen

I got a new 2.4 Samsun 40GB HD on RMA, conected my usb gizmo to it, windows finds new hardwear but then nothing...nowt in my computer.

How do i get windows to find it?

Work fine on my other HD but this aint having anything sadly

Hrm.

Right click my computer -> Manage -> Disk Management

Are there any blank disks in there? If so, right click it and format it. 'Tis the only suggestion I have!

Brand new as it's a rma swap.

In the end i conected it, windows found the ide to usb thing, saw what hd it was but thats it.

I then went into computre management, to the disc section, it showed it and was offline, so switched it online, named it, partisioned it and formatted it and then when into my computre and set the autoplay feature and it works now.

Pretty happy that i found it my self in the end....not much info about on this.

This is not nearly as obvious as it should be, thanks to these posts I worked out what to do but the documentation is useless and you would have thought that a wizard would have popped up when the new drive was connected.

But then again part of the fun is working stuff out.

partitioned

drive can be unformatted and have a letter assigned but without a partition it would not be seen/assigned a letter.
