Hi all,

ok, need a new HD for my setup, its mainly being used as a music studio, with some time being spent on freelance web/2d stuff (not much as i do it all day at work!) looking arounf the 250-300 gig mark i guess

so, i need a relatively fast HD that is also quiet (its in the lounge so i dont want a loud HD)

what are my options? i dont want a deathstar - still dont trust them. raptors seem too expensive imho. and i have a 10k SCSI that a lot of fast access stuff sits on anyway.

also, i have a sata1 system - will sata2 work fine? is it just jumpering that i need to setup? should i be getting a SATA2 one for future proofing myself?

thx all

I would think you want the Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB ST3320620AS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (HD-078-SE). Have a look at the HDTach bench Here

will sata2 work fine?

Yes, should do, as it is backward compatable. :)

If your using it asa DAW (music studio) then you pretty much need to go for the Samsung Spinpoints....they are the quietest things around, and you definately dont want any noise if youre making recordings...I have three of them in my DAW, and wouldnt look back

most of my music is digital - with the odd bit of recorded audio - so im not that bothered about that. just need cubase to be able to pull a lot of drum samples together faster than my current system does.
